We believe that our holidays may not be suitable for children under 8 years old (except for Disneyland Paris bookings) however, we will consider individual requests on application.     This morning we drive to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Opened in 1975, over 20 calves have been born in the orphanage, and during our visit, we will observe how these orphaned gentle giants are taken care of.

    This afternoon we continue to Dambulla for a two-night stay. The town is famous for its magnificent rock cave temples, which are adorned with exquisite cave paintings and shelter numerous statues of Lord Buddha.

    This morning we drive to Sigiriya. The 5th-century rock citadel of King Kasyapa and UNESCO World Heritage Site – Sigiriya – doesn't only boast of ancient Sri Lankan engineering and urban planning supremacy, but also claims to be one of the finest monuments of art and culture.

    Step through the gigantic 'Lion Paws' overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below to appreciate the absolute splendour that once dominated this rock fortress.

    This afternoon we continue to Habarana, where we include a Village Tour.

    The tour begins with a ride on an ox-cart through rice paddies, down to the picturesque lake where we enjoy a catamaran ride before visiting a local home for a traditional Sri Lankan lunch.

    Today we travel to the lakeside town of Kandy, the World Heritage Site and last Royal capital of the Sri Lankan Kings.

    Cradled among the misty hills, the town’s crown jewel is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.

    Kandy is known for its history and heritage and this evening we will experience a traditional cultural show showcasing the rich and vibrant culture of Sri Lanka.

    We stay overnight in Kandy.

    This morning we take a world-renowned train journey through the spectacular lush Sri Lankan countryside and lands of tea plantations to the celebrated British colonial retreat of Nuwara Eliya.

    We continue to a local tea plantation where you will see the picking and processing of the prestigious brand of Ceylon Tea before returning to Nuwara Eliya for an overnight stay.

    Once governed by both English and Scottish planters, the countryside is studded with colonial bungalows, hedgerows and one of the finest 18-hole golf courses in the world.

    Travel to Udawalawe, our base for the next two nights.

    We spend today in elephant country with a visit to Udawalawe National Park.

    One of the best places in the world to see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat, we take a safari jeep into the park to spot elephants, spotted deer, sambur, barking deer, water buffalo and jackal, before visiting the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home.

    Established in 1995, it caters to all injured elephants found in the area, before releasing them back into the wild. A truly memorable day.

    Today we travel to Bentota where you will have the afternoon to embrace the relaxed pace of this idyllic resort town on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast. We stay here for two nights.

    Benefiting from the calm waters of the Bentota River, the coastal town of Bentota has some of Sri Lanka’s finest beaches, allowing for pure relaxation.

    In addition to exploring the long golden beaches for which the town is famous, be sure to see a number of the town's other attractions, including the inspirational Buddhist temple of Kande Viharaya and the beautiful Brief Garden. Once a rubber estate, it was converted by renowned landscape artist Bevis Bawa and features a Japanese water garden and several walled gardens following different themes.

    This morning we travel to the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo where you will have time at leisure to explore everything the city has to offer.

    Colombo has a strong cultural identity formed from its rich colonial heritage which is evident throughout the city and is reflected in its striking boulevards, beautiful architecture and sprawling Viharamahadevi Park, home to its own giant Buddha.

    If you prefer, then you can join the tour at the hotel. To do this, we will require a copy of your passport for identification purposes and you must advise us at the time of booking.

    We are unable to guarantee that the hotel will be able to meet your dietary requirements. We find that the majority of European countries do not generally cater for vegetarians and that the meal supplied may well be what everyone else is having minus the meat.

    We will of course endeavour to arrange for a vegetarian meal at the hotel. We do however suggest that you advise us of your dietary requests at the time of booking and recommend that you speak to the receptionist on arrival with regard to your request.
