We journey aboard Eurostar from London to Paris and continue by TGV to Girona. On arrival, we are transferred by coach to a city centre hotel, our base for the next seven nights.

After breakfast at the hotel, spend the morning at leisure. We enjoy a three-course lunch at the hotel, before our local guide takes us on a walking tour of Girona. This charming city is situated in the northeast of Catalonia, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees, and is rich with historical and cultural heritage. The walled medieval quarter, which sits on a hill overlooking the city, is a delight to explore, and the riverbanks are lined with brightly painted houses. The historic centre is a maze of stunning churches, art galleries, fine squares, and cobbled streets. A wealthy city in medieval times, many superb Gothic and Romanesque buildings were constructed, and a Jewish community flourished here until 1492 – the old Jewish Quarter, Europe’s largest, has now been restored. The splendid cathedral features ornate stained-glass windows and the world’s widest Gothic nave. Our local guide will provide a comprehensive introduction to this fascinating city this afternoon.

This evening, we enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Today’s journey is in Spain on the Núria Valley Rack Railway, which is twinned with the Jungfrau Rack Railway in Switzerland. We travel by coach to join the Rack Railway. It’s the only means of transport to access the valley, so you are guaranteed breathtaking views of mountains and meadows as we climb more than 1,000m. With the help of a local guide, we can learn more about this remote region and enjoy a tasting of local produce. We return to our hotel by coach and enjoy dinner this evening.

This amazing building is dedicated to the town’s most famous son, Salvador Dalí, and is highly recommended for anyone visiting northern Spain.
