Battle of the Bulge 75th Anniversary

On 16th December 1944 the Nazi War Machine unleashed the final offensive in the West as German troops attacked American forces along a wide front in the Ardennes forest in Belgium and Luxembourg. What the Germans called Operation Wacht Am Rhein, became known as the Battle of the Bulge and the 75th Anniversary falls on 16th December 2019. The Ardennes region is commemorating this event the weekend before, and we are pleased to offer a tour attending some of the main events that weekend.

Itinerary

Please choose your preferred 4 day itinerary

Local departure by coach, then to our hotel in Belgium where we stay for three nights.

Over the course of the weekend we will attend events in and around Bastogne where the main ‘Nuts Weekend’ ceremonies are held each year, and battlefield re-enactments take place.

There will be WW2 military vehicles on display, re-enactment groups and special events.

There may also be other special events at Manhay and La Gleize, and where possible we will attend these too. There is a massive collection of WW2 tanks in the Bastogne barracks, and we will also visit this as part of the weekend. In addition to the commemorations we will also visit some battlefield locations in and around the Bastogne area including Foy, Bois Jacques where Band of Brothers fought, and the Panther tank at Grandmesnil.

Please note that at this time of the year, as in 1944, there may be snow in the Ardennes and it is often cold: and this very much adds to the atmosphere of visiting this massive WW2 battlefield at such a special time!
