We make our way to the friendly west coast city of Galway. Music, festivals, horse racing, pubs, restaurants, shops, theatres and most of all Galway people, combine to create this atmospheric medieval city of culture. Be sure to see Eyre Square, enclosing a pleasant park lined with imposing, mainly 19th century buildings. Overlooking the park is a modern shopping mall built to incorporate sections of the historic city walls.
We continue to our hotel in Westport, where we stay for the next two nights.
A day of glorious scenery awaits as we head north to Achill, Ireland’s largest island, on our included excursion. Reaching the island by road bridge, we follow the spectacular Atlantic Coast Drive - a circular route around the southern tip of the island overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the islands of Clare and Achill Beg.
We leave Westport and head to County Sligo, where we make a brief stop in the pretty village of Mullaghmore. The resort stands on a peninsula and boasts breathtaking ocean views.
We continue into County Donegal and to Donegal Town. This bustling town is great for a leisurely stroll around The Diamond Market Square, perhaps relaxing in a traditional pub with a glass of the Black Stuff. After some free time, we continue to Moville on the stunning Inishowen Peninsula, where we stay for three nights.
Today, join our optional excursion to Doagh Famine Village, which tells the story of Irish life from the Great Famine of the 1840s through until the present day. Your guide will take you on a journey, showing how families and communities have lived generation after generation. A combination of informative story-telling and exhibits provides an in-depth, thought-provoking and at times, humorous look at Irish life. Attractions include original thatched Irish cottages (inhabited as recently as the 1980s), an Eviction Scene, Orange Hall, Republican Safe House and Irish Wake House, amongst others.
We continue to Malin Head, the most northerly tip of the island of Ireland. It is the start (or end, depending on your point of view) of the Wild Atlantic Way and boasts awe-inspiring coastal scenery.

A day of fantastic scenery awaits as we travel to the Antrim coast where we visit the world-famous Giant’s Causeway (*entrance via visitor centre extra – see below), an astonishing complex of basalt columns packed together forming ‘stepping stones’ from the cliff foot and disappearing under the sea.
We later continue to the walled city of Derry. Prosperity and peace have made this compact city, with its tumultuous history, one of the most fascinating to visit in the British Isles.
During your visit, an optional sightseeing tour will be available to introduce you to the city. The sightseeing tour of Derry will commence by coach, giving an overview of the city before we continue on foot around the walls. As Ireland’s only completely walled city, it has over 1,450 years of history locked into its 17th century walls. We enjoy a stroll along part of the walls, ending in the city centre. From the walls you will view the murals, which are a reminder of key events within Derry’s more recent history.
