Our included excursion today takes us across the German border into Bavaria and to the lovely town of Fussen. Located at the southern end of the Romantic Road and above the River Lech there will be a short amount of free time to discover the medieval centre of this charming town. We continue our journey to the village of Hohenschwangau, the home of King Ludwig II’s famous Neuschwanstein castle. The panoramic views from each side of the castle are truly breathtaking. Built in the 19th century, King Ludwig encouraged plans for this German Gothic castle but unfortunately died before the end of its construction. This romantic castle, upon which Walt Disney based Sleeping Beauty’s Palace, is one of Germany’s most popular images. We include entrance into the castle where you will be escorted around on a guided tour. Please note: during the tour of the castle you will be required to climb 165 steps and descend 181, therefore this excursion may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties.

Vaduz, Chur & the Arosa Bahn
A day at leisure today or, for those passengers who have pre-booked the optional excursion, we take a trip aboard the fantastic Arosa Bahn. We depart our hotel after breakfast and travel to Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland. In Chur we board the fabulous Arosa train and enjoy the scenery as we trundle by the town wall, the Maltese tower and the Obertor gate. The train then leaves the town behind and begins to climb up into the mountains crossing the elegant Langwieser Viaduct. We arrive in the charming resort of Arosa where there will be free time to take in the fabulous views and fresh mountain air. Later this afternoon we travel to Liechtenstein’s capital, Vaduz for a short visit before returning to our hotel. Please note: This excursion is highly recommended and must be purchased before departure as we cannot accept further bookings whilst on tour. The cost is £36 per person. Please ask for details when booking this holiday.

Our included excursion today takes us into Switzerland. We head first to the picturesque old town of St Gallen. Spend time exploring the narrow streets, including the magnificent cathedral and unique Abbey Library, which houses a priceless collection of manuscripts. We continue into Germany to Konstanz on Lake Constance (Bodensee). This beautiful lakeside city is a joy to explore and a walk around the old town of Konstance shows much has remained unchanged since the Middle Ages.
