On this Centenary tour we look at the opening phase of the Allied offensive, the Battle of Amiens on 8th August 1918, which led to the end of World War One, and attend the anniversary ceremonies in the Somme area. The battle, also known as the Third Battle of Picardy, heralded the last one hundred days of WW1 and had a huge effect on the morale of both sides with many German forces surrendering. It was described by German general Erich Ludendorff as the “black day of the German Army”. Along with the ceremonies we visit memorials, battlefield cemeteries and the famous bridge at Riqueval.
