After breakfast today, we visit the home of one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. Sutton Hoo is England’s Valley of the Kings, the 7th-century cemetery for the royal dynasty of East Anglia, the Wuffingas, who claimed descent from the God Woden. It’s thought that many of the 18 or so burial mounds were looted over time, but in 1939, in the King’s Mound, the richest burial in northern Europe was found. It that of King Rædwald, laid to rest in a 90ft-long ship, surrounded by his extraordinary treasure. Come face-to-face with our ancestors and explore the award-winning exhibition, including the full-size reconstruction of the burial chamber and the stunning replica treasures and original finds from one of the mounds, including a prince's sword.

We will also call at Lavenham, one of the UK’s best-preserved timber-framed villages dating back to Saxon times. Chocolate-box Lavenham offers everything you could want from a place often called the 'Best Kept Medieval Village in England': half-timbered merchant houses, winding streets, a lavish 15th-century church, and many listed buildings. If Lavenham’s picturesqueness wasn’t enough to tempt you, it’s also well known for its restaurants, such as The Great House and the 800-year-old Swan Hotel, and for being the home of Harry Potter. Lavenham was used as Godric’s Hollow, the magical village where Harry Potter was born, during filming of The Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2. The Crooked House is also Suffolk’s most photographed home, having inspired a world-famous nursery rhyme.

After breakfast today, we head north to visit one of Suffolk's most famous attractions, Oulton Broad. From the beautiful marina, we embark on a 40-minute morning cruise, sailing around Oulton Broad and the first stretch of Oulton Dyke. See the boatyards and boathouses built along the banks of the largest Broad in the National Park.

We then head for the coast and to Lowestoft, the most easterly town in the British Isles. Known for its award-winning beach, you can discover this traditional seaside resort by taking a walk along the seafront promenade.

After breakfast, we head out to explore Constable country alongside a local Blue Badge guide. Our first stop of the day is East Bergholt, located on the north bank of the River Stour, where Constable was born in 1776.

We then head for the picturesque Stour Valley and Dedham Vale, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty made famous by the paintings of John Constable. We then travel to the idyllic village of Dedham where John Constable went to school and no doubt was inspired. Located on the River Stour, this typical English village boasts a main street lined with Georgian houses, tea shops and country pubs. Visit the popular craft centre, or why not hire a rowing boat and cruise the River Stour? This has been a favourite pastime of visitors since the 1700s!

Our final stop is the pretty hamlet of Flatford where we admire some of the key views and locations which inspired many of Constable’s iconic paintings, including Flatford Mill and Willy Lott’s House.
