Afternoon arrival in Fiuggi, near Rome, for a four-night stay.
Today you can join our fantastic included excursion, first to the monastery of Monte Cassino, founded by St. Benedict around 529. It was destroyed during World War 2, but today has been re-constructed as a replica of its seventeenth century predecessor.
We continue to Pompeii, engulfed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, where the inhabitants of this small town were literally frozen in time. To make the most of your visit why not join our optional guided walking tour?
In 79AD the eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried the town of Pompeii in about 6/7 metres of stones and ash. Painstaking excavations, which are still ongoing, began in the 18th century and have uncovered a remarkable hidden city.
Accompany your expert guide around the town, walking along roads with indents from the passing of chariot wheels and discovering the remains of homes, shops and public baths. With a little imagination and the explanations of your guide, it is not hard to get a picture of life in the town all those years ago. An experience not to be missed! (Entrance into the ruins is included in the price of the walking tour).
Alternatively you can explore the excavations at your own pace (entrance at additional cost).

The Historic Centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with wonderful palaces, churches, basilicas, Roman ruins, monuments and fountains. It has an immensely rich historical heritage and cosmopolitan atmosphere.There will be ample free time for you to explore this wonderful city at your leisure.
To make the most of your visit, why not join our optional guided sightseeing tour. The sightseeing tour takes place on both coach and foot and will introduce you to the city’s wonderful sights, including the mighty Colosseum (entrance not included) and the Trevi Fountain.
Note: Although Rome is a relatively compact city, we would remind you that this is a walking tour, not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties, and we would recommend you wear suitable shoes for the day.

You may wish to join our optional visit to the popular Neapolitan resort town of Sorrento where you can spend the full day exploring at your leisure. The town and area have been a popular holiday resort for over 2000 years with all nationalities and is the perfect place to watch the world go by.
If you wish to be introduced to all Sorrento has to offer then join our optional Taste of Sorrento excursion, where you can combine your visit to Sorrento with a guided walking tour of the town and a visit to a Limoncello factory. Limoncello is the signature lemon liqueur of the area, and our visit will include a short tour of the factory and orchard along with a sampling of this famous drink.

Afternoon arrival in Fiuggi near Rome for a six-night stay.
We journey through the scenic countryside on our optional excursion, to the town of Frascati, located to the southeast of Rome. It is a small, relaxed town with a slower pace of life, cleaner air and a far more casual feel than the nearby capital. Frascati is famous for its villas, in particular Villa Aldobrandini, which dominates the town. Frascati is also famous for its production of white wine. Whilst here, we include a short visit to a pergolato, where you can sample some of the local produce including snacks of porchetta, cheese, olives and wine.
There will be free time to explore the town at your leisure before we continue towards Castel Gandolfo, on the shores of Lake Albano and home to the Pope’s summer residence. Most of the town is part of the independent papal state of the Vatican City, and when in residence the Pope addresses the crowd from the balcony of the palace. (Please note: entrance into the Pope’s summer residence is prohibited).

Another chance to visit Rome today on our included excursion. Perhaps spend the time discovering the smallest independent state in existence, the Vatican City. The Vatican sits atop the low-lying Vatican hill just a few hundred metres west of the River Tiber. As an independent state, it has its own postal service, newspaper, radio station and army.
See St. Peter’s Square, considered by many to be a masterpiece. The immense square was commissioned as a place for all the Christians of the world to gather, and is the site where some of the most important papal ceremonies take place.

which will generate more tourists visiting Rome.
