Rocamadour & Highlights of the Dordogne
The Dordogne is a region of stunning natural beauty, where medieval villages seemingly cling to hillsides and cliff faces, castles tower above lush green riverbanks and rolling vineyards, and awe-inspiring caves provide the setting for this region steeped in history and legend. We begin with a visit to the Remembrance village of Oradour-sur-Glane, which has been left untouched since WW2. From here, we travel to our base in Rocamadour, where we discover the city’s many delights. Descend the cave complex of Gouffre de Padirac and take a short boat trip on the underground river. Explore the old towns and villages of the Lot Valley, before we tour the Dordogne. We see Sarlat, one of the most beautiful towns in the region, and Beynac with its spectacular castle. As we leave Rocamadour behind, our holiday comes to an end in the medieval town of Martel.

Itinerary
Please choose your preferred 7 day itinerary
Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to the Paris area for an overnight stay.
We leave our hotel in Paris, pausing for a Remembrance visit at the village of Oradour sur Glane, which stands frozen in time since the terrible massacre on 10th June 1944 by the German SS, who also destroyed the entire village.
After the war, General Charles de Gaulle decided the village should never be rebuilt, and for it to remain a memorial site. A stroll around the empty streets of this silent monument is a very moving experience. We then continue our journey to the Dordogne region, and the village of Rocamadour where we stay for four nights.
Includes Breakfast
Includes Dinner
Enjoy a morning at leisure exploring the pilgrimage town of Rocamadour, where Saint Amadour was reputed to have lived as a hermit. There are many small chapels to explore, including the Chapelle de Notre Dame with its famous Black Madonna, a 12th century carved wooden depiction of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus.
This afternoon we travel to Gouffre de Padirac, a spectacular cave complex for an included tour. We descend 103 metres via the cave lift before joining the underground river for a boat trip through the tunnels, seeing impressive 60 metre high stalactites. We then continue the tour on foot seeing the Grand Dome chamber, a 94-metre-high vault.
Please note that this excursion may not be suitable for customers with particular health conditions. The tour takes place between 75 & 103 metres underground and is a 2km round trip, the majority of which is on foot. The walk is flat, but there will be a large number of steps to negotiate.

Founded in the Roman times, Cahors has many sights worth exploring. The centre of Cahors has beautiful medieval streets and charming little squares which you can explore.
Later we head to the beautiful village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. Standing high above the River Lot on a rocky outcrop, the village was once the site of a fortress which guarded the valley. Today, the village is known as one of the most beautiful in France.

The coach, the drivers and the places that we visited were superb. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the hotels. The stop over in Paris was a dreadful start to the holiday with a a damp room that was uninhabitable, the room was changed but the room offered was exactly the same. It was riddled with damp. The hotel in Rocamadour was extremely basic and we went elsewhere for food as the standard of the evening meals were very poor. I emailed leger and they said that they would get back to me but unfortunately four weeks on still nothing and I have given them every opportunity and time to answer my emails. But no response from leger at all. The photos are from two separate rooms.

As our first trip with Leger, we thought it superbly organised and value for money. Rocamadour was an amazing place and trips well organised with an optional tour which allowed us to spend the day exploring Rocamadour in greater detail. Drivers were superb and we were all amazed at the skill in negotiating the tunnel on a bend on the hill leading down to Rocamadour. Food and accommodation in Rocamadour was in line with the two star hotel as advertised.

Very efficient company, everything was taken care of and no problems. Pros, coaches, drivers and locations excellent. Downs, customer service didn't respond to an enquiry and the hotels used aren't great.

this tour despite the long periods traveling was fantastic, the family run hotel Lion D'or in Rocmandour was lovely very clean and the food in the resturant was very good. The places visited were old french towns with timbered houseThe cave tthat we visited was very deep 250 steps to the bottom and the same at the other end, but luckily there are 3 lifts to get you to and fro the bottom. Paul and Lisa our drivers were very knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour and made the tour

Excellent holiday and drivers, Lisa and Paul. The hotel was ideally situated in the centre of Rocamadour and had good facilities. The excursions were well planned and executed. A few things could have made the holiday 5+: Firstly, we were disappointed that there was no wifi on the coach. With trains and local buses having this facility, it seems strange that our coach did not, particularly as it was Luxuria. Secondly, it would have been nicer to have more time in the hilltop villages, given the difficult terrain, and perhaps less time in the major towns, viz Carhors and Sarlat. Finally, the dropping off experience on the way home wasn't great. We were held up by traffic on the M25 (unavoidable), but more time was wasted driving through city centres, such as Chelmsford & Colchester, when drop offs could have been made at services, particularly as we stopped at Boreham Services anyway. Obviously, driving through these towns is made a lot worse because of the time of day. At Colchester, Colchester Services had been used as a pick up point as well so why drive to the small bus station in the town centre for drop offs? Despite these minor points, I would still recommend this holiday to others.
