Today we look at the fighting near Compiegne during WW1 and then visit the Armistice Carriage Museum in the Compiegne Forest. Here the Armistice was signed and a generation later Hitler inflicted humiliation on a defeated France. We then visit the Guards’ grave at Villers-Cotterets where British Guardsmen fought during the Retreat From Mons. After lunch in Soissons we visit the Soissons Memorial, which commemorates British soldiers who died on the Marne in 1918. We then visit a mixed British and German cemetery from the 1918 battles, and finish at the impressive Phantoms Memorial.
