This morning’s optional excursion takes us on a cruise to the famous Borromean Islands. They lie at the centre of the Lake Maggiore and are fine examples of natural beauty enhanced by landscaped gardens and parks.
This afternoon, we include an excursion to Lake Orta, one of Italy’s smallest lakes. Spend time exploring the pretty village of Orta, with its narrow, cobbled streets, rich-in-history, aristocratic houses, courtyards and elaborate palaces.

Today’s included excursion will introduce you to three of the great lakes; Como, Lugano and Maggiore, accompanied by our expert guide. Our route takes us to Lake Como, visiting the resort of Como, and to the lakeside city of Lugano, magnificently sited between the peaks of San Salvatore and Monte Bre. Lugano is a very Swiss city with more than just a hint of Italy. Explore the colourful piazzas, terrace cafés and flower adorned lakeside promenades. Our journey is completed spanning the northern shores of beautiful Lake Maggiore.

We leave Lake Maggiore and head east to Lake Iseo. As one of Italy’s lesser-known lakes, Iseo remains a hidden gem, but is equally as enchanting as its neighbours. Continue to Lake Garda and to arrive at Hotel Desanzano for a four-night stay.

Today’s optional excursion takes us around the shores of Lake Garda to some of its most picturesque villages, including the gem of the peninsula, Sirmione. We also sail across to Isola del Garda, the largest island on the lake, which is an enchanting place suspended in the waters between the Gulf of Salò and Emerald Bay. Isola del Garda is a green, elegant island with a centuries-old history to discover.

Join our optional excursion, as we first head to Lake Levico. Surrounded by mountains and lush woodland, Lake Levico is truly beautiful, and the town of Levico Terme is a quaint and charming resort. It was originally known for its thermal waters and is perhaps one of the most famous spa towns in Europe as today it's still an unspoilt resort with crystal clear waters. Our day continues as we drive onwards to Molveno, located at the shores of Lake Molveno, where the beautiful turquoise waters against the backdrop of the Brenta Dolomites make for a magnificent setting. The picturesque village is especially popular with hikers and mountaineers.

Discover the delightful lakeside villages of Malcesine and Riva del Garda as we take a relaxing tour of northern Lake Garda. Malcesine is a beautiful and quintessential Lake Garda town, with narrow winding streets and a 14th-century castle that gives fantastic views of the town and lake from its clock tower. Riva del Garda has a picturesque little port, with houses tightly packed around the water’s edge.

You will stay for three nights at the 4-star Hotel Milan Speranza au Lac in Stresa on Lake Maggiore, followed by four nights at the 4-star Hotel Desenzano on Lake Garda.
Overnight stays in northern France will be in minimum 3-star hotels.
