Itinerary

Please choose your preferred 10 day itinerary

Fly to Atlanta where you will be met and transferred to Chattanooga hotel for a three-night stay.

We begin with a look at the Battlefield of Chickamauga, one of the bloodiest of the whole American Civil War, which resulted in a major defeat for the Union Army and cost more than 34,000 casualties in two days. We visit the site of the fighting, seeing the traces of battle and the many memorials. In the evening enjoy the Buttonwillow Civil War Dinner Theatre. The War comes to life on a magnificent 19th-century set in the beautifully reproduced Victorian dining and performance hall. The story of a Union soldier meeting his Confederate sister on the battlefield is based on hundreds of diaries and memoirs. This production immerses the audiences in the 1860s, with titbits of history, and authentic recipes from the cook book of Varina Davis, wife of Confederate President Davis.

Almost 25,000 men fought the terrain, the heat, the fear and each other in an area that became forever known as ‘the hell hole’. We will tour the major Confederate defensive works on Kennesaw Mountain. The Union victory here set the stage for the Battle of Atlanta in July 1864. After, we tour the Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History at Kennesaw.
