We explore the castle, home to a rich collection of art, armour, and furniture. This formidable fortress has over 1,400 years of history, offering tales of Vikings, Normans, and ancient Northumbrian kings. Today we take the coastal route to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we drive along the Northumberland coast, seeing iconic sights such as majestic Bamburgh and the Holy Island.
Perched on the northernmost tip of England, the walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed serves as a charming gateway between England and Scotland. Enclosed by Elizabethan Walls, the best preserved of their kind in Europe, you can explore the rich heritage of the town, found at the Berwick Barracks or in the town hall’s 18th-century jail.
