Today we explore the stunning winter scenery of the Austrian Lake District. We begin the day in the beautiful village of Hallstatt; one of the most photographed spots in Austria. We then continue to Bad Ischl, the former summer residence of the great Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The town has been associated with the Habsburg dynasty for over 700 years and is home to the Imperial Villa in which the Emperor, Franz Josef I, called “heaven on earth” for him and his family. This afternoon we visit the pretty town of St. Wolfgang.

We journey across the River Danube into the Czech Republic and to the delightful town of Ceský Krumlov on our optional excursion. Dominated by a castle stretching over the meandering Vltava River, Ceský Krumlov's narrow cobblestone streets offer cosy inns, inviting coffee shops, and ancient taverns.

This optional excursion is available to pre-book or you can book during your tour.
We begin the day in Salzburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Austria. From lovely squares and medieval lanes, to gothic churches and quaint cafés, you will have time at leisure to explore everything Salzburg has to offer. This afternoon we visit the crystal clear Lake Mondsee where we spend time in the delightful and principal resort of Mondsee, located on the banks of the lake. Home to the Basilica of St. Michael, the famous wedding church where Maria married Georg von Trapp in the film ‘The Sound of Music’, this gothic former monastery is just as striking today as ever with its two towers stretching 52 metres high.

You will stay for four nights at the 3-star Panorama Hotel Traunstein. The hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the centre of Altmunster and Lake Traun in the heart of the Austrian Lake District. It has a restaurant, bar and lift.
Overnight stays in Belgium will be in city-style hotels.

Drivers were fantastic everything ran smoothly . The disappointment was at the hotel where we stayed most nights food was set at a certain time and bar closed very early . There was no where else for the group to congregate with each other for a drink

Day trips good but at this time of the year when shops & cafes are not open the length of time spent in the places can seem a bit long. Also it would have been nice to get back to our resort a little earlier one day to have a look around.

This holiday was up to the usual standards I expect from Leger Holidays. Drivers were very good and we visited very interesting places. Although there was only snow on the mountains the scenery was spectacular. Hotel staff at Panorama Hotel Traunstein were very friendly and food was good. I had a lovely lake view from my balcony.
