Today we make our way across Italy, past the city of Bologna and onto the port at Ancona. Here, we board our overnight ferry for the sailing from Ancona to Durrës. Our evening meal will be served on board.

Please note: your driver will be required to collect your passport in order for you to be checked in before boarding the ferry. Please ensure you have your passport to hand. It is advisable to pack a small overnight bag for this evening.

We arrive in Durrës this morning and disembark the ferry. We then travel southwards to Vlorë where we enjoy some free time. The city enjoys a sprawling coastal location with beautiful beaches along both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, at the foothills of the Ceraunian Mountains.

We later head to Sarandë, our base for the next three nights.

Vlorë

Today we make the most of our location in Sarandë. In the morning, we visit the famous Butrint National Archaeological Park. With a picturesque lagoon and mountains surrounding it, the park is worth is visiting for the views alone. Our expert local guide will bring the park to life with a guided walking tour of the first place in Albania to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Please note: There will be a lot of walking on uneven surfaces and some steps, so please wear comfortable shoes for this excursion.

Following the Butrint visit, we enjoy some free time in village of Ksamil.

This afternoon, enjoy some free time to relax in Sarandë or join our optional excursion to the Blue Eye Spring, a unique oval-shaped natural spring displaying shades of aqua and dark blue.

Another day, another UNESCO World Heritage site! Join our optional excursion to the city of stone, Gjirokaster, home to Ottoman architecture, distinctive slate roofs, winding cobbled streets and an old bazaar. We will explore the impressive castle, the largest in Albania, which towers high above the city, as well as the Ethnographic Museum, providing an insight into the history of the city.

We leave Sarandë and travel northwards.

During the journey, we stop in the city of Berat, enjoying some free time and a guided city tour. We also include entrance to the Onufri Museum, which is dedicated to Byzantine art and iconography and showcases the rich history and cultural heritage of the region.

We continue to Tirana, where we stay for three nights.

Spend some time this morning exploring the colourful capital of Albania, Tirana, with our local guide. We will discover a blend of historical landmarks, cultural insights, and the modern-day city life. This afternoon, enjoy some free time at leisure to discover this vibrant city independently.

Tirana with Guided Sightseeing Tour

Enjoy some further free time in the city of Tirana or join our optional escape to the natural haven of Lake Ohrid. Here, we visit the small town of Pogradec at the southern end of the lake in Albania. This town has retained its original charm and is a tranquil and unspoilt location which gives a peek into authentic Albanian life.

This morning, we leave Tirana and continue our journey northwards.

We pause in the city of Shkodër, where we enjoy some free time at leisure. Shkodër is the gateway to the Accursed Mountains in the far north of Albania. The pastel-painted buildings in the Old Town have a distinct Italian ambience.

During our time in Shkodër, take the opportunity to join our guided sightseeing tour which includes a visit to Rozafa Castle.

Our journey continues northwards to Bosnia and Herzegovina, reaching Neum where we stay for three nights.

Enjoy an optional excursion by coach and boat to Korcula which, according to local legend, Prince Antenor of Troy founded in the 12th century. The island is rich in fascinating historical influences, including Greek, Venetian and Turkish. Korcula is the sixth-largest Croatian island, at 20 miles long and approximately 5 miles wide. We will have some free time to explore the island and perhaps purchase some of its famous exports such as olive oil and red wine.

Later we continue to the nearby peninsula of Peljesac and to Potomje, where we visit a wine cellar. Here, you have the opportunity to sample a couple of the local wines during an included tasting.

Enjoy a day at leisure in Dubrovnik, described as ‘Paradise on Earth’ and a ‘Jewel in the Crown of the Adriatic’. It is considered the most perfectly preserved medieval town in the world and has rivalled Venice for centuries as a major sea trading port. Dubrovnik has now been fully restored to its former glory with the huge walls, built between the 11th and 17th centuries, still intact.

Dubrovnik has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the beautiful old town is a joy to explore. Take a walk along the stone ramparts of the city for the best views, before venturing inside to experience the many treasures.

Our included guided city tour will show the main highlights and includes entrance to the cathedral and Franciscan monastery.

Dubrovnik with Guided Sightseeing Tour

Today we make our way to Split to enjoy some free time. We will then board our overnight ferry and sail to Ancona in Italy. Our evening meal will be served on board.

Accommodation

In Albania, you will stay for three nights at the 4-star Hotel Bouganville or similar in Sarandë, and three nights at the 4-star Hotel Boheme or similar in Tirana. You will then stay for three nights in the Neum area of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a hotel such as the 4-star Hotel Vapore.

On the two overnight crossings, accommodation will be in en-suite cabins.

Overnight stays in northern France and northern Italy will be in city-style hotels.
