Our included excursion today takes us over to the north west of the island, as we explore La Costa Rocosa (the Rocky Coast). The stunning scenery offers a true taste of the real Majorca, with villages facing the sea and backed by the peaks of the Tramuntana Mountains.
We head to the old mountain town of Valldemossa, which exudes an air of the ‘land that time forgot’ and whose famous inhabitants have included the Polish composer Frederic Chopin, and his lover, French novelist, George Sand.
We continue to the pretty resort of Soller, which lies in a lush valley of orange groves, idyllically set between the mountains and sea. Enjoy a refreshing ice cream in one of the cafés in Placa Constitucid.
Today we offer a full-day optional excursion, exploring some of the villages and resorts of the north of the island. We head firstly to the ancient town of Pollenca, which enjoys a charming setting between two hills.
Continue along part of the stunning Cabo de Formentor Road, which commands spectacular views over the clifftops. Rightly regarded as Majorca’s most beautiful peninsula, this stretch of road takes us to the majestic Hotel Formentor, built in 1928 and the favoured hotel of the rich and famous. The flowered terraces look out over the glistening blue waters of the Mediterranean and the northern coast of the island.
Later, spend time in Alcúdia, one of Majorca’s most popular resorts. Take a stroll through the lovely local market.

Enjoy an included excursion today as we head to Arta, where you will have the opportunity to browse the weekly market. The market has a relaxed feel with a certain charm. On offer are jewellery and local handicrafts, and it is the ideal place to have a coffee and an ensaimada (a Majorcan speciality of a spiral of pastry dusted with icing sugar).
We then continue to the legendary Cuevas del Drach (Dragon’s Cave), perhaps the most famous of Majorca’s caves. There are three main chambers inside the caves: Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave) and Cueva Luis Salvator (Luis Salvator Cave). A steep flight of steps through the caves ends at the fantastic Lago de Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world. See the beautiful limestone formations, including stalagmites protruding from the rock face, and stalactites hanging down from the roof of the cave. As part of the journey underground, visitors are accompanied by the sound of musicians performing classical music, including compositions by Chopin, every hour on a boat.
Today, join our optional full-day excursion to Palma, the capital of the island. The huge Gothic cathedral stands proudly overlooking the waterfront, and the city’s main ancient monuments and buildings stand as testament to its rich and varied history. The city boasts wide, palm-lined promenades, dotted with pavement cafés, with the main hub being the Passeig des Born. Explore the delightful Old Town with narrow streets and peaceful squares crammed with tasty tapas bars.
