Encircled by wooded hills and the peaks of Ekeberg, Holmenkollen and Grefsenkollen, Oslo lies at the head of the beautiful Oslofjord. With its medieval Akershus Fortress, modern City Hall and cutting-edge Opera House, Norway’s capital is an engaging mix of old and new. The cathedral, Parliament House and National Theatre are all found in the city’s main thoroughfare, Karl Johans Gate, which runs through the centre up to the attractive Royal Palace. The marvellous Viking Ship Museum and Kon Tiki Museum tell of Norway’s rich seafaring history, or you can visit the remarkable Vigeland Sculpture Park.

Known as the Gateway to the Fjords, Bergen is Norway’s second largest city, yet with a population of less than a quarter of a million, it has the feel of a small town. It is beautifully sited against a backdrop of seven mountains and the funicular ride to the summit of Mount Fløien affords wonderful panoramic views of Bergen and Norway’s attractive coastline. Overlooking the harbour, the colourful Bryggen wharf is the face of Bergen. The characteristic wooden gabled buildings were once the home and offices of Hanseatic merchants, but today, house shops selling crafts and traditional souvenirs.

Lying at the end of a tributary of the beautiful Hardangerfjord, Eidfjord is surrounded by mountains up to 1,900 metres high. The small town is the gateway to Hardangervidda, which is the largest high mountain plateau in Europe and Norway’s largest national park. A short walk from the village centre, there are graves by the roadside dating back to the Iron Age and Viking eras. The ‘old’ church in Eidfjord was built in 1309. Nearby, the stunning Vøringfossen waterfall is one of Norway’s most popular natural attractions and features in optional excursions, along with the amazing Sysen Dam.

(*Ship at anchorage. Passengers land by tender). Surrounded by towering mountains, the tiny village of Flåm, with some 500 inhabitants, nestles at the head of Aurlandsfjord, the innermost arm of the mighty Sognefjord. Its popularity as a tourist destination began in the late 19th century with the arrival of steamships carrying English and German passengers, including Europe’s royals attracted by the salmon fishing in the Flåm River. Today’s visitors are drawn to Flåm for a chance to ride on one of the world’s steepest and most spectacular railways. A masterpiece of engineering, Flåm Railway twists and turns through the steep-sided Flåm Valley amidst some of Norway’s most breathtaking mountain scenery.

Your Cruise Ship – Magellan

Magellan boasts a spacious interior with wide corridors and expansive wooden deck areas providing comfortable surroundings for guests. However, the ship still provides an intimate atmosphere, with a huge range of leisure facilities, including bars and lounges, as well as multiple dining options. Combining comfortable surroundings and a friendly service with stylish entertainment and delicious cuisine, Magellan is the perfect choice for those looking for a greater range of on board facilities. However, the ship still retains a feel of intimacy and personal attention when compared with the ‘mega’ resort-style ships built today – no climbing walls or ice-skating rinks!

Discover a wide range of comfortable lounges and stylish leisure facilities to enrich your time on board. The wide range of public facilities include the impressive Waldorf and Kensington Restaurants offering two sitting dining, or the more informal Raffles Bistro. There are comfortable lounge areas throughout, including the two-tier theatre-style Magellan Show Lounge, and a wide range of other amenities. Out on deck, there are two swimming pools, three whirlpools and large deck areas.

Cabins

Your cabin is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day sightseeing ashore and your cabin steward will ensure that you enjoy a high degree of comfort and service, whichever grade of accommodation you decide best suits your holiday requirements. There are fifteen categories of cabins and suites, primarily graded according deck position and even in the most economical cabins, the standard features are impressive. Ocean View Cabin describes a cabin which has natural light from a window; Inner Cabin describes a cabin which has artificial light only.
