Itinerary

Please note for navigational and passenger safety, the cruise company and the captain reserve the right to modify the cruise itinerary if necessary. Sailing times are dependant on how busy the numerous locks are. At some ports of call, a degree of walking will be involved to join our coach. Due to limited docking facilities, it may be necessary to dock alongside another ship to access the shore.

We fly to Amsterdam where we are met and transferred to join our cruise ship, the MS Select Bellejour. The ship is moored in Amsterdam tonight, allowing you the chance to explore the city at night. The unique mix of historic sites, cultural diversity and tradition, has helped to create one of Europe’s true jewels.

Explore more of the city, perhaps with a visit to one of the many museums. Alternatively, join our optional excursion to Zaanse Schans with its typical old Dutch town and windmills. We depart this afternoon and begin our cruise along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, passing Utrecht. We cruise upstream and into Germany, along the mighty Rhine.

We cruise into Cologne around lunchtime. Capital of the Rhineland and dominated by the Dom – the magnificent cathedral, Cologne is a joy to explore. Watch the world go by from one of the open terraces and bars along the river. Alternatively, spend time shopping in the old centre. We leave Cologne this evening and cruise through the night.

At Koblenz we join the Moselle and cruise to Cochem, passing pretty wine villages that dot the riverbank. We arrive in Cochem, where you will have free time to explore the pretty streets lined with welcoming bars and half-timbered buildings. The stunning Reichsburg Castle towers above the town and is well worth a visit.

This morning we rejoin the Rhine, as we cruise the most impressive section of the river, known as the Rhine Gorge. Castles appear at every turn of the river and we pass the famous Loreley Rock, steeped in myth and legend, soaring some 120 metres above the river. After lunch, we berth in Rüdesheim, a bustling wine town, famed for the Drosselgasse, a narrow street lined on both side with wine taverns and quaint half-timbered cottages. During the day we offer an optional Rüdesheim tour and winetasting.

A gentle overnight cruise upstream brings us early morning into Mannheim. Join our included excursion by coach to Heidelberg. Picturesquely situated on the banks of the River Neckar, Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university town and boasts an historical town centre and beautiful castle. Enjoy a stroll around the old town and across the Alte Brucke, an ancient bridge which spans the Neckar. We meet our ship back in Speyer, with its impressive cathedral and churches, where we offer an optional city tour.

This morning we cruise into Kehl. Join our included excursion by coach to Strasbourg, the capital of the French-Alsace region. The city is renowned for its enchanting medieval quarter with many quaint buildings, an impressive Gothic cathedral and the Baroque palace at its heart. Make the most of your time here on our optional city tour taking in the highlights, including a visit to Petit France. We moor overnight in Kehl.

We arrive this morning in Switzerland and the city of Basel, where sadly it is time to bid farewell to our cruise ship and crew. We disembark and head by coach to Seelisberg where we stay for three-nights.

Included full-day excursion to Lake Brienz, with its crystal clear green-blue waters. We spend time in the famous holiday resort of Interlaken. Situated between the lakes of Thun and Breinz and at the foot of the famous trio of peaks, the Eiger, Monch and the Jungfrau, the resort is rich in tradition.

Accommodation

You will stay for seven nights on the 4-star Superior MS Select Bellejour. Offering excellent facilities, designed for a relaxing cruise, the ship boasts a lounge and bar, restaurant and shop. Watch the passing scenery from the comfort of a lounger on the Sundeck or enjoy the ship's sauna and whirlpool. Cabins are divided across three decks and are the same in size of approximately 14.5m2. All cabins are very spacious and equipped with separable twin beds, satellite T.V., safety deposit box, phone, hairdryer and air-conditioning. Standard cabins on the lower deck are fitted with two fixed picture windows with superior cabins on the middle deck and deluxe cabins on the upper deck all enjoying opening French balconies.

You will then stay for three nights at the 3-star Bellevue Hotel in Seelisberg.
