Local departure by coach, then to Luxembourg for a four-night stay.

This morning we travel along the Moselle Valley to Remich, which boasts a charming town centre and a tree-lined promenade along the banks of the Moselle River. Remich is also known for its wine and great historic past. Remich was once known as ‘Remacum’ during ancient times and was popular with fishers and boatsmen, over the years the area has grown and now offers many beautiful sights including St Nicolas gate which was built in honour of the fishermen in the area. St Cunibert Street which is the home of this religious man’s birth place who was also the archbishop of Cologne back in the 17th century and main lovely squares, fountains and churches to name a few. After time at leisure we travel to ‘Little Switzerland’, visiting the pretty medieval town of Echternach nestled in the meander and valley of the Sauer River. Little Switzerland is named so due to the similarities to Switzerland. Echternach is an abbey town and is the oldest city in Luxembourg with stunning ancient city wall, marketplace and Gothic town houses. There is lots to see and do in the area including the museum, walking trails, beautiful buildings and places to enjoy local dishes. This evening enjoy a six-course Christmas Eve dinner.

After breakfast join our optional excursion into neighbouring Germany and to Trier, Germany’s oldest city. Emperor Augustus founded Trier as a Roman colony in 16 B.C. It then became the favoured residence of several Roman emperors and was even known as ‘Roma Secunda’, the second Rome. The Cathedral of Trier is one of the main sights of the city. It was originally built by Constantine the Great, the first Christian Roman Emperor. It is the oldest church in Germany and houses great works of art as well as the Holy Robe, a garment said to be worn by Jesus when he was crucified. You can see the impressive Porta Nigra, which once formed part of the city's Roman Walls as well as many other attractions.
