    Costa Smeralda

    Costa Smeralda

Today, why not join our included excursion of the exclusive and beautiful Costa Smeralda. Costa Smeralda is 55km long and spreads into small and deep bays reminiscent of fjords. We take the ferry from the harbour town of Palau across to the Maddalena Islands. We visit the town of La Maddalena, the only inhabited island of the archipelago. The town is perched on the hill of Guardia Vecchia (156m) in the southern part of the island. A must for any visitor is the promenade behind the port, which houses beautiful 19th century buildings. There will be free time to explore the charming maze of narrow streets and small squares before we return to Palau by ferry.

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Today’s included excursion is through the varied landscape of northern Sardinia where you will see reminders of Sardinia’s eventful history, from the ‘nuraghe’ to Romanesque churches built in the Pisan style. We continue to the attractive coastal town of Alghero. The ancient walls still surround the old town centre with its typical alleys and shops where the famous coral is worked and exhibited.

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Included excursion to the Barbagia area, named after the Barbarians, who inhabited the area. We visit the small town of Nuoro, which boasts some of the best views on the island, then continue through the local vineyards, seeing the ‘murales’ of Orgosolo, which decorate the façades of the buildings that line the winding cobbled lanes. Later we enjoy lunch, sitting in a semi-circle on granite benches covered in oak leaves accompanied by the Pastori shepherds, whose sheep produce the island’s famous peccorini cheese. Enjoy lamb and porchetta, roasted on an open fire, followed by local Sardinian bread and red wine. (Dining outside subject to weather conditions).

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our included excursion will take you through the charming landscape of the north-western coast where picturesque granite formations appear out of deep cork-oak woods and pastures. We visit Calangianus, centre of the cork production, and Tempio Pausania, where you can spend time in the historical centre.

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

We leave Sardinia and take the ferry to Bonifacio in Corsica. The medieval old town stands on imposing chalk cliffs from where you enjoy dramatic views. Continue to Ajaccio with a photo stop in Propriano. Ajaccio jealously keeps the reminders of Napoleon Bonaparte who was born here in the oldest quarters. Many monuments, squares and museums are in fact dedicated to him. We stay in Ajaccio/Porto area for two nights.

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Included excursion to Porto, which lies in a beautiful position between the sea and the mountains. Enjoy time at leisure exploring this little town, especially the Marina, which is the main area of the resort. There will also be time for you to Admire the ‘calanques’ which are unusual rocky formations created by wind erosion.

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

We leave our hotel and head to Filitosa, a prehistoric site classified as a historic landmark due to the many statue menhirs and monuments found here. Later we make a brief stop in Sartene with its grey granite houses. We then continue by ferry to Sardinia and our overnight hotel in the Olbia area.

    • Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

To Olbia Airport for the return flight to the U.K.
