Little Trains of the Romantic Rhine Valley
Join us and enjoy the best of the Rhine and Ahr Valleys as we base our stay in the typical Rhineland town of Remagen with its picturesque narrow streets winding to the lovely riverside promenade. Steeped in a rich and fascinating 2000-year history, Remagen has become a haven for artists inspired by the romance of the Rhineland. Providing an ideal gateway to explore the wine valleys of the region, this splendid itinerary allows you to explore the popular Rhine and Ahr Valleys, with a combination of rail, boat and coach. Marvel at the spectacular scenery, as vineyards climb steep hillsides, leading to imposing castles which overlook the quaint wine villages as we embark on a fabulous escorted tour.

Local departure by coach, then to Remagen for four nights.
Today we discover the Eifel region on our included excursion on board the Vulkan Express.
We start the day by travelling by coach to Bonn, from where we include a cruise to Brohl, passing Linz en route. Relax and enjoy the passing scenery, as we enjoy our included light lunch onboard.
We disembark at Brohl riverside and meet our train, the Vulkan Express. The train will take you through one of the most scenic valleys of the Rhine to Engeln. The carriages are pulled by diesel or steam locomotives, through the Brohl Valley where you will see volcanic formations, stone viaducts, castles and a monastery as you meander through the countryside.
After arrival in Engeln the train will take us past the half-timbered station at Burgbrohl, and on to Brohl. Our coach will meet us at Brohl, and we return to our hotel in Remagen.
Following dinner, we enjoy a guided historical walk around Remagen. The small town of Remagen is famous for its bridge that fell into American hands in 1945, providing them with passage across the Rhine.
Today we include a full day excursion to the opposite bank of the Rhine, the region known as the Siebengebirge - the seven hills range. At Königswinter we board Germany's oldest rack railway, the Drachenfelsbahn. From the valley station there is a height difference of 220 metres to the summit, where you will find the ruined Drachenfels Castle and visitor centre, with superb views across the hills and the Rhine region. Our day is completed with a visit to the lovely half-timbered town of Linz-am-Rhein and a tasting of some local wines.
Enjoy a full day exploring the Moselle on our optional excursion.
We head first to Koblenz, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle.
We head along the Moselle River – a more tranquil river valley in contrast to the vibrant Rhine.
Later, we arrive in Cochem, the ‘pearl of the Moselle’. A picturesque town with narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleys and restored half-timbered houses with slate roofs, all overlooked by the magnificent Reichsburg Castle.
