Today, we head to Koblenz, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers.
After time at leisure for exploration, we enjoy an included cable car ride to Fortress Ehrenbreitstein, with entrance included. Admire the panoramic views from the imposing fortress or explore the historic buildings, taking in the many permanent and temporary exhibitions.
This morning we take to the water and cruise to the beautiful town of Rüdesheim. We board the boat in Boppard and sail through the Rhine Gorge, arriving in Rüdesheim at around lunchtime. Enjoy free time in the town, which is home of the vibrant Drosselgasse and the famous Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet, and is lined with restaurants, bars and shops.
Later in the afternoon, we re-join the boat for the return sailing to Boppard. The Rhine is a delight as it meanders through its vine-clad gorge, busy with brightly coloured cruisers and barges. Add to this some of Germany’s finest medieval castles on the hillsides and the legend of the Loreley, and you have a day to truly remember.
This morning, we head to the charming town of Cochem on the Moselle for free time, before continuing to the lovely little town of Monschau, the ‘Gem of the Eifel Region’.
Centred on the banks of a small river, and overlooked from opposite hillsides by the ruins of a stone watchtower and an old palace, Monschau is linked by a series of bridges. The town’s restaurants and shops lead up to the town centre where a delightful church proudly stands – a classically pretty town.
This afternoon, we continue to our overnight hotel in Belgium.
