Boppard & the Rhine Valley
Today we head south to the quaint Rhineland town of Boppard also known as ‘the pearl of the Rhine’. Boppard has many historic buildings and an attractive riverside promenade which invites you for a relaxing stroll by the Rhine.
From Boppard we travel south along the banks of the Rhine to the picturesque town of St. Goar, home to the world’s largest cuckoo clock. We have a short stop here before continuing to our hotel in the Black Forest for a four-night stay.
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
Titisee & Schluchsee
Today we enjoy a full-day optional excursion around the southern Black Forest. Enjoy time in the picturesque resort of Titisee, famed for the lake of the same name and its crystal clear waters. Admire the beautiful scenery or sample the local delicacies such as Black Forest gâteau.
We continue to the larger and equally beautiful, yet lesser-known lake of Schluchsee. A haven for holidaymakers, Schluchsee offers pleasant woodland strolls and a bustling resort centre.
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
Triberg & Freiburg
Our day begins with a scenic drive through the Black Forest region to Freiburg, with its historic old town, and magnificent architecture. Popular sights include Freiburg Minster, with its 116 metre tall tower, and the old and new town halls. Visitors to Freiburg may be fascinated to see the ‘Bächle’ or miniature canals, which were once used to supply water for industrial uses. It is said that those who step into the miniature canals will visit Freiburg again.
We then travel to Triberg, home to Germany’s highest waterfalls, and to the pilgrimage church of ‘Maria in der Tanne’. Triberg is also well-known for its cuckoo clock tradition – carvers, clockmakers and clock shops are characteristic of the town. The German Clock Route also passes through Triberg!
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
Enjoy a leisurely final day in resort, or join our included excursion to the beautiful town of Freudenstadt, which over the centuries has been ravaged by war, plague and fire, yet restored beautifully.
Freudenstadt has the biggest market square in Germany, framed by pretty arcaded houses and shops. Listen to the carillion of bells in Martin Luther Square (on the hour at 11am, 3pm and 5pm) or admire the ornamental water jets in the lower market place.
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
Today we bid farewell to the Black Forest and travel to the historic spa-town of Baden-Baden for an included visit. This beautiful city boasts a relaxed atmosphere and a sea of greenery in its parks and gardens.
We continue to Belgium where we stay overnight.
Included Excursions & Visits
Boppard & The Rhine Valley – Pearl of the Rhine
Triberg – Typical Black Forest town
Freiburg – Medieval German city
