Our included excursion takes us to Lake Maggiore and the opulent resort towns of Stresa and Baveno. Here you will have time at leisure to explore the grand architecture and cosmopolitan atmosphere or perhaps relax in a café and enjoy the stunning scenery towards the Borromean Islands. The islands lie at the centre of the lake and are fine examples of natural beauty enhanced by landscaped gardens and parks.

A fantastic optional excursion to beautiful Milan where there will be free time for you to explore the city that shares its title as one of the Fashion Capitals of the world with London, New York, Paris and Tokyo. The city was once the capital of the Western Roman Empire for a short but significant 109 years. Its position at the top was reconfirmed by Napoleon in 1786, when he declared the city his centre of the Cisalpine Republic. Rome was chosen as Italy’s capital in 1861 but for many northern Italians, Milan is the country’s heart. Today Milan is the business capital and home to the country’s stock exchange as well as being renowned for its fashion and design industries.
To introduce you to the sights why not join our optional sightseeing tour where you will discover the historical and artistic heart of Milan. Accompanied by our local guide we start by coach on a panoramic tour passing by the Monumental Cemetery, Porta Garibaldi and Corso di Porta Venezia. We stop at Via Verdi where we then continue on foot to La Scala Theatre, one of the world’s most famous opera houses (entrance included). We then continue to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a covered double arcade connecting Piazza della Scala to Piazza Duomo. Finally we conclude our tour outside of the magnificent gothic style Duomo Cathedral, the seat of the Archbishop of Milan.

Today, our pre-booked optional excursion takes you to the world famous resort of St. Moritz. Sporting life has always been an important part of St. Moritz, and over 100 years ago the first British visitors used to stage Toboggan races in the streets. There will be a short amount of time for you to explore before we board the Bernina Region Railway and cross one of the highest railroad lines in the Alps. As we approach the Swiss / Italian border, we travel over the Brusio spiral viaduct, an amazing feat of engineering that allows the train to gradually descend 20 metres in a relatively short distance. We arrive in Tirano, a quaint Italian town, where we spend a short amount of free time before returning to our hotel. Please note: This excursion must be pre-booked before departure and cannot be purchased on tour.

You will stay for five nights fully-inclusive at the 3-star Hotel Britannia Excelsior in Cadenabbia. Enjoying a superb setting facing the lake-shore, enjoy the superb views across the waters to Bellagio.
