About the tour: Centenary of ANZAC at Villers-Bretonneux

On ANZAC Day 1918 Australian and British troops brought the German offensive on the Somme to an end near the village of Villers-Bretonneux. As well as visiting key WW1 battlefield sites including VC Corner, Fromelles, Messines Ridge and Tyne Cot, this emotive tour also attends the commemorative events on the Centenary of this iconic battle.

Tour Itinerary

Certain excursions are included in the price of your holiday. If you choose not to go on an included excursion, for whatever reason, no refunds will be made.
Yes, you will receive one with your Travel Documents, which are sent 7-10 days before departure.
We believe that our holidays may not be suitable for children under 8 years old (except for Disneyland Paris bookings) however, we will consider individual requests on application. Customers aged 18 and under at the time of travel must be accompanied by an adult, parent or guardian aged over 18 years old.

    Regional departure by coach, then to our hotel in northern France or Belgium, where we stay for four nights.

    Today, we will spend a day at Fromelles and Ypres visiting key Australian battlefield sites including VC Corner, Fromelles Museum and Pheasant Wood Cemetery, as well as the Messines Ridge, Polygon Wood, Tyne Cot and attendance at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate.

    At this stage, details of the main event on 25th April 2018 have not been announced, but it will include attendance at the Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux, requiring an early start, and access to the new Monash Centre Museum being built on the site. We will also visit the area around Villers-Bretonneux.

    Today, we will look at Australian sites on the Somme including Pozières and Mouquet Farm, and follow the advance in 1918 to the last Australian battlefield at Montbrehain.

    A large scale dawn service at the Australian National Memorial will take place in the morning of the 25th April 2018 to commemorate ANZAC Day.

    The Australian Government Department for Veteran’s Affairs have announced that all those wishing to attend the dawn service will be required to register for an attendance pass. Due to only a limited number of places being made available for UK residents to attend, these places have now been filled and anybody now wishing to attend the dawn service from the UK would need to join a waitlist.

    Should you wish to join the waitlist to attend the dawn service it is recommended you do so as a matter of urgency via the following website https://overseascommemorations.ticketek.com.au.

    Accommodation

    If you prefer, then you can join the tour at the hotel. To do this, we will require a copy of your passport for identification purposes and you must advise us at the time of booking.

    No reduction will be given if you should choose to do this.

    We are unable to guarantee that the hotel will be able to meet your dietary requirements. We find that the majority of European countries do not generally cater for vegetarians and that the meal supplied may well be what everyone else is having minus the meat.

    We will of course endeavour to arrange for a vegetarian meal at the hotel. We do however suggest that you advise us of your dietary requests at the time of booking and recommend that you speak to the receptionist on arrival with regard to your request.

    You will stay for four nights at a minimum 3-star hotel in Belgium or northern France. Full details of your hotel will be advised with your travel documents.

      You can park for FREE for up to seven days at the Holiday Inn Ashford North and enjoy an overnight stay with English breakfast from just £38 per person (Based on 2 sharing a twin/double room on a B&B basis, subject to availability. Single supplements and terms and conditions apply.) We’ll then collect you from the hotel on the day of departure and return you there at the end of your holiday.

      On most holidays if you’d prefer to join your tour coach at Stop 24 services, you can park your car in the car park which is accredited by the Park Mark safer parking scheme and is monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV. Payment for the parking is made on arrival using the self-service machines. Excludes holidays to Ireland and the U.K. and tours travelling via Brittany Ferries.
