Armistice in Normandy 2020

Travel to Normandy for 11th November and join us as we take an in-depth look at some of the key D-Day battlefields, including Juno and Gold Beaches, and some of the lesser-visited locations. We will also attend an Armistice commemoration event in Normandy at either the new British Normandy Memorial or Ranville War Cemetery. You can choose to stay in our upgraded hotel for this tour, located at an old manor farm in the Normandy village of Crépon, just inland from Gold Beach and the scene of fighting on D-Day. Alternatively, you can stay in a hotel in Caen, located near to the main D-Day sites.

Itinerary

Local departure by coach, then to Normandy for a four-night stay.

We begin today in the 6th Airborne Division area around Ranville, seeing Ranville War Cemetery and the Drop Zones, before examining the attack on the Merville Battery and visiting the newly refurbished museum here.

After lunch, we look at the story of Pegasus Bridge and visit the Pegasus Memorial Museum, before travelling to Sword Beach to see the area where men from the 3rd Division landed along with British Commandos. We also visit Hermanville War Cemetery.

This morning, we visit the Green Howards Memorial in Crepon before attending an Armistice Day commemoration at either the new British Normandy Memorial or Ranville War Cemetery.

Later, we visit selected sites at Juno and Gold Beaches, including Ryes War Cemetery.

We begin this morning at Omaha Beach, seeing where US troops landed on what became ‘Bloody Omaha’ on D-Day, before visiting the Overlord Museum.

After lunchtime in Port-en-Bessin, we visit the Normandy American Cemetery before travelling to Pointe du Hoc, to visit the bunkers and bomb craters fought over by US Rangers who scaled the cliffs here on D-Day.

Before returning to our hotel, we visit Bayeux War Cemetery and the Bayeux Memorial.

You will stay for four nights at the 2-star Carline Caen Nord or 3-star Brit Hotel Caen Nord Memorial Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis (5FNAV).

Alternatively, you can upgrade to the Ferme de la Ranconniere, located in the tiny village of Crepon just outside of Arromanches. Your stay here will be on a breakfast and dinner basis (5FNAHX).
