Day 5 - Pompeii & Vesuvius

Today we visit the historic town of Pompeii at the foot of Mount Vesuvius on our optional excursion. In 79AD the eruption of Mount Vesuvius engulfed the inhabitants of this small town in approximately 6 metres of stone and ash where they were literally frozen in time. Painstaking excavations, which are still ongoing, began in the 18th century and have uncovered a remarkable hidden city. Accompany your expert guide around the town, walking along roads with indents from the passing of chariot wheels and discovering the remains of homes, shops and public baths (entrance to the ruins is included). We then continue to the awe-inspiring Mount Vesuvius. Discover the history of the volcano’s activity. Later, we travel up Vesuvius to 3,000 feet, where you can continue on foot to the crater (there is a local charge of approx. €10 to visit the crater).

We do have holidays that are suitable for wheelchair users, however the person using the wheelchair will need to be able to get on and off the coach if a coach tour is booked. Our coaches are not suitable for someone who is wheelchair reliant as we can only take folding wheelchairs that are stored in the luggage compartment.
