Christmas in the Black Forest

We begin with a trip to Freiburg, where you can soak up the festive atmosphere. On Christmas Eve relax on resort, or why not join us as we cross the border into Switzerland, where we enjoy time in the city of Basel. Experience a magical journey through stunning scenery on Christmas Day, as we enjoy a scenic drive through the Black Forest, where we visit Titisee and enjoy a tasty lunch. On Boxing Day, why not join us as we take a tour of Schaffhausen and Stein-an-Rhein, two pretty towns on the border of Switzerland. Before we return home with magical memories, we head to Stasbourg where we get one final opportunity to visit a Christmas Market.

Today, you can enjoy free time or join us on our optional excursion to festive Freiburg. Soak up the atmosphere of this lively old town, enjoying the last day of the delightful Christmas market, with over 130 individual stalls.
Considered one of the most attractive cities in South Germany, Freiburg is generally regarded as being the “unofficial capital” of the Black Forest. The charming old town is dominated by its Gothic Munster the towering spire of which is the landmark of the city.
With its medieval old town and picturesque brooks, it’s a showcase of Gothic grandeur, with many of its buildings dating back to the middle ages, there are plenty of beautiful squares to explore.
The festive atmosphere comes to life in the Rathausplatz (City Hall Square), one of Freiburg’s most popular markets, where you can find a spectacular nativity scene with intricate wooden characters.

Enjoy Christmas Eve relaxing at your hotel or exploring your surroundings. Alternatively, you can join us on our optional excursion as we head over the border into Switzerland, to the city of Basel.

Basel is a cultural city, perfect for lovers of fine wine and dining. Its unique location on the border of three neighbouring countries has a profound influence on its cuisine. There are more than 20 restaurants here with entries in the Michelin Guide as well as a wide variety of different foods on offer.
Be your own guide and choose one of the five walking routes around the city by following the respective signposts and route colour. Each starts and ends in Marketplatz and guides you through the streets of the Old Town to the most important museums and prettiest piazzas.

Merry Christmas! Today we included scenic morning drive through the rolling mountains and picturesque forest of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest).
Taking its name from the thick covering of evergreens that almost absorb the light, with miles upon miles of breathtaking scenery, the Black Forest’s winter setting is almost as iconic as its name-sake gateau.
Following our scenic drive, we continue to the pretty lakeside village of Titisee, to admire the crystal clear waters and take in the fresh mountain air.
Whilst in Titisee, we will enjoy an included lunch in a local restaurant before heading back to the hotel for dinner.

Today, our optional excursion takes us to Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein, two pretty towns just over the border in Switzerland.
We begin in Stein am Rhein, situated amongst beautiful countryside along the lower end of Lake Constance, where the Lake becomes the River Rhine again. Here you can see how the shopkeepers elaborately decorate their shop windows to depict a fairytale. You can discover the story by following the windows in a certain order.
We arrive in Schaffhausen this afternoon, home to one of the most captivating medieval town centres in the whole of Switzerland. Here you will have time to explore the narrow streets at your leisure before we return to our hotel later this afternoon.

This morning, we leave our hotel after breakfast and commence our journey to northern France for an overnight stay. En route, we make a visit to Strasbourg.
Strasbourg is a vibrant multicultural city and capital of the Alsace region. There will be free time to explore the city with its enchanting old quarters.
