Day 4 - Prora - ‘Strength Through Joy’ programme

At Prora we go right onto the Baltic coast on the Rügen Island and look at the massive complex built between 1936 to 1939, so that ordinary Germans who were members of the National Socialist Party could go on holiday. Part of the Nazi ‘Strength Through Joy’ programme, there are eight huge identical buildings and they are classic examples of Nazi architecture from this period. A new visitors centre helps explain the story and the human cost behind such a project.
