The Battle of Arras was the first British offensive of 1917 and one of the deadliest battles of the Great War. We begin our 2017 centenary commemorations with a tour attending ceremonies in the Arras area visiting the battlefields here and seeing Vimy Ridge, captured by the Canadians.
We spend the first day visiting the battlefields around Arras seeing some of the key sites connected with the battle here in April-May 1917 including the battlefield sites at the Pont du Jour, with a visit to the 9th (Scottish) Division cairn, the sunken lane at Fampoux, Monchy le Preux, Roeux and the Arras Memorial to the missing.
Today we will attend one of the main official ceremonies in either Arras or at Vimy Ridge: exactly where will depend on security arrangements and/or whether the Canadian authorities will restrict access to Vimy during this period. In addition, we will aim to visit other battlefield sites such as Bullecourt seeing where Australian and British soldiers fought in April-May 1917.
We believe that our holidays may not be suitable for children under 8 years old (except for Disneyland Paris bookings) however, we will
consider individual requests on application. Customers aged 18 and under at the time of travel must be accompanied by an adult, parent or
guardian aged over 18 years old.
The Best Western Plus Hôtel Alize Mouscron is conveniently located in the heart of Mouscron. Whilst the Alize does not have a restaurant, the hotel is within walking distance of Mouscron Market Place and its bars and restaurants. The hotel has become a firm favourite with Leger clients and is ideally based for exploring the Battlefields of Flanders and Ypres. All bedrooms feature modern furnishings, large flat screen T.V.’s with English channels, and free wifi. Guests enjoy a full breakfast buffet in a stylish dining setting. Other hotel amenities include a fitness room and sauna.
We are unable to guarantee that the hotel will be able to meet your dietary requirements. We find that the majority of European countries do not
generally cater for vegetarians and that the meal supplied may well be what everyone else is having minus the meat.
We will of course endeavour to arrange for a vegetarian meal at the hotel. We do however suggest that you advise us of your dietary requests
at the time of booking and recommend that you speak to the receptionist on arrival with regard to your request.
