Operation Market Garden
Operation Market Garden was the ill-fated World War Two operation devised by General Bernard Montgomery to shorten the war in the autumn of 1944. It began with a ground assault by XXX Corps on the Belgian-Dutch border followed by simultaneous airborne drops by American and British Paratroop forces between Eindhoeven and Arnhem. We follow the ground troops along their original route and also examine the Battle for Arnhem Bridge and the idea of ‘A Bridge Too Far’.

Only a three star overall review. There appears to be a disconnect between the strategic and operational side of Leger holidays. The staff on the ground do not appear to have any connection with what has been arranged and as a result spend a lot of time and effort in "fire fighting" the requirements of the clients.

This was my third Leger Battlefield tour and the only problem was that there should have been a health warning re the need for a degree of stamina and mobility, which I do not have, regarding the walking part of the tour. Only other comment is your failure to respond to my criticism of the black hole of Calcutta bedroom at the Caen Hotel used in my Normandy battle field tour.

The tour was good and we visited all the places as advertised, although in a different order due to a local event that was being held at the same time as the tour. The guide was knowledgeable and informative on the battle details and the drivers carried out a good job which at times had stressful situations.

Our guide Scott had a lot to pack into the two days on the battlefield but managed to give us a strong sense of the the overall narrative of the operation without overwhelming us with information.
