Itinerary

Please note for navigational and passenger safety, the cruise company and the captain reserve the right to modify the cruise itinerary if necessary. Sailing times are dependant on how busy the numerous locks are. At some ports of call, a degree of walking will be involved to join our coach. Due to limited docking facilities, it may be necessary to dock alongside another ship to access the shore.

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to northern France for an overnight stay.

We head south to Lyon, where we board our luxury cruise ship, the Emerald Liberté for our six-night cruise. This evening sail north through the beautiful Beaujolais region.

Chalon–Sur–Saone is best known as the centre of Burgundy’s wine region. Travel by coach to the quaint village of Beaune, where we visit the Hospices de Beaune, one of the finest examples of French fifteenth– century architecture. Marvel at the multi–coloured roofs of this former hospital, now a museum, which has become one of the symbols of Burgundy. Return to the ship for lunch, and then depart this afternoon for Macon, arriving in the evening. Tonight, enjoy local entertainment on board.

Arrive in Macon, another important wine region and gateway to the Beaujolais vineyards. Walk the Heritage Trail from Old Saint Vincent Cathedral to the General Hospital buildings and Soufflot Chapel, maybe trying some local wines. Enjoy time at leisure in the afternoon.

Join your local guide for a walking tour of Tournon, which is dominated by the 16th century castle and roman ruins, and is nestled in the valley near the steep slopes of le Massif Central, France's 3rd largest mountain range. The Rhone-Alps has a long tradition in wine-making, and the nearby town of Tain l’Hermitage is known for its red wines.

Avignon has a rich history from Celtic beginnings to being the residence of the Popes and later central to the French Revolution. The Papal Palace stands secure on a hill in the centre of town; its walls are 17–18 feet thick. Your walk with a local guide takes you through this delightful historic centre, exploring ancient cobbled lanes. The famous ‘Pont d’Avignon’ is only a short distance away.

Sail into the Camargue region to the capital of Provence, Arles where you will join your local guide for a walking tour showcasing the highlights of the city. The rest of the day is at leisure.

You will spend six nights cruising on the 4-star Emerald Liberté. To be launched in 2017, you can expect a stylish and spacious ship, designed to ensure the most comfortable cruise. The standards of service, attention to food, and knowledge of wine you’d expect in France will be sewn into the very essence of the Emerald Liberté – providing on-board experience comparable with world class boutique hotels. Completing the Sensations of Southern France itinerary, the ship exudes the same relaxed spirit as the lands which surround the rivers it sails upon. Travelling from Lyon to Avignon, the Emerald Liberté will explore culturally-rich and enigmatic cities before dissecting the wine regions and charming Mediterranean settlements of France.
With a capacity of 138 guests, and a series of cutting-edge amenities, the Emerald Liberté represents the next generation of river cruising. The Mediterranean climate provided by the southern reaches of France provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the open-air amenities of the Sun Deck. The top deck of the Emerald Liberté is blessed with a large area to sit back and relax and the retractable glass roof winds back to reveal the swimming pool, so you can enjoy the gentle river breeze blow through your hair as you complete a few pre-breakfast laps.
The hugely popular Horizon Bar and Lounge has been added to the Emerald Liberté, providing a wonderful after-dinner retreat. Partake in your favourite digestif from the well-stocked bar whilst enjoying the local entertainment performing their native art forms – bestowing an authentic taste of French culture upon proceedings.
Cabins are located on three decks – the Riviera Deck; Vista Deck; and Horizon Deck.
