Arrive at our hotel in Chianciano Terme for a five-night stay. The town itself is made up of two distinct parts – the spa town with its relaxing gardens and the Old Town, where quiet, narrow streets lined with pretty houses wind their way around the medieval castle.
We begin our explorations of Italy today as we make our way to the Renaissance city of Florence on our included excursion. To make the most of your visit why not join our optional sightseeing tour, where our local guides’ commentary will reveal many of the stories behind the buildings and personalities that have shaped the history of this magnificent city. Travel by coach up the hills behind the city, to Piazza Michelangelo. Here you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city and surrounding countryside. Once you have taken your photos the coach will take you back to the city, where your guide will lead you on a walking tour through the delightful streets of Florence, pointing out the major sights. See the Santa Croce church, the burial place of Michelangelo, the famous statues in Piazza della Signoria and also the magnificent Santa Maria Duomo.
Following the tour you will have time at leisure to explore the endless historic sights, see the shops in and around the centuries old Ponte Vecchio, or even have your portrait painted by one of the street artists who usually gather in the square next to the medieval Duomo (Cathedral).
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
Why not join our optional excursion to the medieval town of Siena? Set on three hills, Siena is drawn together by winding alleyways and steep steps. The town has worked hard to preserve its Gothic architecture, and its centre, the Piazza del Campo is listed by UNESCO as one of the world's most significant historic sites. There will be ample free time for you to explore the town at your leisure.
Alternatively, why not purchase our optional Siena with a guided sightseeing tour which allows you to combine your visit to this fabulous town with a guided walking tour. This evening we enjoy our four-course dinner and a toast with Father Christmas!
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
Merry Christmas! A leisurely day in Chianciano Terme. Perhaps take a stroll around the town, which is made up of 2 distinctive parts – the Spa Town and Old Town. The Spa Town encompasses relaxing gardens. In the Old Town you will find quiet, narrow streets lined with pretty houses, which wind their way around the medieval castle. Enjoy a four-course Christmas lunch at the hotel.
Included meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today you have the full day to discover the Italian capital city of Rome on our included excursion. Also, known as the ‘Eternal City’ and the famed city of the Roman Empire, it has been a millennium long centre of power, culture and religion. The Historic Centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with wonderful palaces, churches, basilicas, Roman ruins, monuments and fountains. It has an immensely rich historical heritage and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Upon arrival in this beautiful city you will have time at leisure to savor the special ambience of this former capital of the Roman Empire.
A lovely place to explore on foot, our optional walking tour is a fantastic way to introduce you to the city’s array of spectacular sites. We see the beautiful Piazza Venezia, the central hub of Rome in which many thoroughfares intersect. The imposing Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of Italy, dominates the piazza. The Viale di Fori Imperiali starts here, a main thoroughfare, which leads past the Roman Forum and Trajan’s Forum, to the mighty Colosseum. Discover the history of this great building; where up to 55,000 spectators witnessed gladiators fight to the death (entrance not included). Although Rome is a relatively compact city, we would remind you that this is a walking tour, not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties and we would recommend you wear suitable shoes for the day.
Included meals:Breakfast, Dinner
