Local departure by coach, then onwards to Caen for a four-night stay.

Walk 1: We start our walks on Sword Beach and here follow the men of Lord Lovat’s 1st Special Service Brigade. We see where they landed, look at the memorial to Piper Bill Millin, and then follow their route towards the port of Ouistrehem. We see the memorial to the Free French Commandos and follow their assault on the ‘Cassino’ at Ouistrehem. As a follow up we visit the excellent No. 4 Commando Museum in the town.

Walk 2: After lunchtime in Courseulles, our second walk follows the Canadian landings at Juno Beach. Here we walk Mike Sector seeing where the Canadian, Scottish and Royal Winnipegs fought. We see the beach itself and walk the German defences, look at the story of ‘Cosey’s Bunker’ and see an original D-Day Churchill AVRE that landed in support of the Canadians.

Great holiday, Paul and Ben have amazing knowledge of the Normandy landings, hotel 2* was ok, purchased evening meal every night and food was excellent, and priced reasonably, transport side of the holiday involving pickups and transfers was also excellent. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

The guides and the walks were fantastic. The hotel less so.

The walking tour was really achievable, about 3 miles per walk. Both Leger guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A great holiday

Enjoyed this trip and it fulfilled expectations. This was mainly because of the quality of the guides, Fred and Lawrence. Also the drivers on our coach, Sonia and Larry. who did everything possible to make our outbound and inbound journeys as comfortable as possible. The only negative was the amount of time we were all held up at French customs at Calais. This 3 hour delay meant that we missed our intended ferry an led to delays in getting home. While I understand this is no fault of anyone at Leger as it was solely down to the indolence of the French border guards; If there is any chance of giving some feedback to the French border guards on this issue I believe it should be done. In my view and others on the coach French border guards seemed to take a perverse delight in ensuring everyone on a coach passing through Calais were inconvenienced as much as possible. It completely soured an otherwise enjoyable tour..
