Twixmas Cruising the Rhine Valley

What our previous travellers have to say about this tour

"We found it hard to fault any of our time on board. The food was really good and everywhere was clean. It was as good – if not better – than some of the hotels we’ve stayed in."

"My husband had always wanted to try a sea cruise, but I get so sea sick, so we decided on a river cruise instead. We have had five holidays with Leger and have always had a wonderful time and been looked after well – so we chose this particular one with them as a ‘taster’ – not too long but enough to know if I would like it!

When we boarded the Rhine Princess we were greeted very warmly with a lovely supper waiting for us. Our cabin was better than I expected. It was lovely, warm, spacious and the bed was very comfortable.

Sunday morning was spent relaxing and watching the beautiful scenery go by on the top deck. The houses along the Rhine were pretty. The sun was shining but it was very cold! Sunday afternoon we went to Rudesheim. We had already visited the Mechanical Museum in the summer, so we had a leisurely stroll round the quaint little gift shops. We stopped for a drink and were persuaded to try the Rudesheim special coffee – you only want one – but it’s a must and warms you up in the cold weather! We chose to relax on board with a hot drink rather than go to Koblenz – and watched as it started to snow.

Sunday evening was a feast of a meal after which there was a quiz night and entertainment with Johnny – he was absolutely brilliant! We woke Monday morning, everywhere covered in snow, it was very picturesque and made the cruise really seasonal. We arrived in Cologne and said farewell to the crew. They had made our cruise so enjoyable, each one so friendly and helpful. We found it hard to fault any of our time on board. The food was really good and everywhere was clean. It was as good – if not better – than some of the hotels we’ve stayed in.

Cologne is a lovely city, we looked around the cathedral and some Christmas stalls there. The food smells were very tempting. People were also skating. I would love to visit again in the summertime and relax by the riverside.

We met our coach later to make our way to Belgium. Our drivers were friendly, helpful and the coach was clean and tidy as usual. There was a nice crowd of people on this short break so all in all we had a nice time. We didn’t do an awful lot, but it was nice to just sit and relax and be waited upon after a hectic Christmas. I would definitely do a longer cruise and recommend this one for a ‘taster’.
