Itinerary
6-Day Break
- Day 1 – To Drymen for a 5-night stay. D
- Day 2 – Aberfoyle, the Trossachs and the Falkirk Wheel (included). The romantic literature of Sir Walter Scott in the 19th century put this lovely area of mountain, woodland and loch scenery ‘on the map’. We travel through Aberfoyle to Trossachs pier where we board the SS Sir Walter Scott (in service since 1900) for a cruise on Loch Katrine with commentary. We return via the ‘Falkirk Wheel’, a unique experience joining two canals, with its visitor centre. Take a trip by boat on the ‘wheel’, itself (extra charge) and ‘change canals’, Millennium-style. B,D
- Day 3 – Oban & Inveraray (optional). Along the shores of Loch Lomond then through the Highlands and the brooding Pass of Brander to the west coast and the fishing port and resort of Oban in a fine setting overlooking the Firth of Lorne towards the Isle of Mull. Time in Oban to explore the shops and the picturesque harbour. On our return journey, we call at the Royal Burgh of Inveraray, with its lovely main street of whitewashed houses and shops. The town is in a superb position on the shores of peaceful Loch Fyne. B,D
- Day 4 – Edinburgh (included). A day out to Scotland’s capital city. Visit the Castle, see the Royal Mile, explore the superb shops on Princes Street and see the sights. During the day you can enjoy an optional excursion to nearby Leith to the ‘Britannia Experience’. Step on board and learn the history of the Royal Yacht Britannia; she is docked at the Ocean Terminal, where, apart from the visitor centre, there is a shopping complex with some 75 famous high street names. B,D
- Day 5 – Loch Lomond (included). To nearby Balloch on the ‘bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond for an optional cruise on the ‘Queen of Scottish Lakes’. We also offer an optional visit to nearby Dumgoyne to take a tour of the famous Glengoyne Distillery, producers of fine single malt whiskies. B,D
- Day 6 – Return home. B
