14-Day Break
- Day 1 – Local departure then onwards to Belgium for an overnight stay
- Day 2 – To Copenhagen for a 2-night stay. B,D
- Day 3 – Copenhagen (included). Copenhagen sightseeing (optional). Roskilde and the Viking Ship Museum (optional). Spend time in the wonderful Danish capital. The city has many fascinating landmarks and beautiful architectural masterpieces, which are largely connected to the Danish Royal Family. Join our optional sightseeing tour with local guide and see the Royal Palaces, the world-famous Tivoli Gardens, the Rosenborg Palace, now a museum housing the Danish Crown jewels, as well as the “Little Mermaid”, the inspiration for Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale. In the afternoon enjoy an optional tour to the former capital of Denmark, lovely Roskilde. See the beautiful Cathedral which dates from the 12th century and visit the fantastic Viking Ship Museum and learn the exciting history of the Vikings in the Viking Ship Hall with its five 1000 year old Viking ships. - Day 4 – Helsingor (included). En route to Oslo we call at the picturesque harbour town of Helsingor, also known as Hamlet’s town. Visit Kronborg Castle, the Elsinore in Shakespeare’s famous play, a vast outstanding Renaissance construction dating from the 16th century. B
- Day 5 – Oslo (included). Oslo sightseeing tour (optional). Spend a day in the grand Norwegian capital with its wealth of cultural attractions including the Akerhus Fortress, the National Gallery, the Kontiki Museum and the Viking Ship Museum. To make the most of your day join our optional guided sightseeing tour which will give an introduction to this historic capital. See the “Stottel” or Royal Palace, built between 1825 and 1848, the Domkirke or Cathedral, dating from the late 17th century, the Stotinget or Parliament and Karl Johans Gate, Oslo’s main street. B
- Day 6 – Through fantastic scenery and crossing the Eidfjord, a branch of the Hardangerfjord to Voss for a four night stay. B,D
- Day 7 – Norway in a Nutshell’* (optional). Join the most popular excursion in Norway, taking you through some of the country’s most beautiful scenery. We join the Flam Railway from the mountain station of Myrdal for a 20 kilometre journey down to the fjord at Flam seeing the most magnificent scenery with ever changing panoramas of cascading waterfalls and lofty mountains. We then continue by boat on the Aurlandsfjord into the Naeroyfjord, one of the narrowest fjords in Europe, an amazingly beautiful spot. Then we continue by coach up the spectacular hairpin bends of the Stalheimskleiva and enjoy wonderful views of the Stalheimsfossen and Sivlefossen waterfalls before returning to Voss. B,D
- Day 8 – Sognefjord and the Boyabreen Glacier (included). North through spectacular countryside with fine viewpoints on the way to descend to the shores of the vast Sognefjord, the world’s longest fjord, and also known as the “fjord beneath the glaciers”. We cross the fjord by ferry from Vangsnes and follow the northern shores of the huge sea inlet past the hamlets of Leikanger and Hermansverk, then north to the land of the glaciers. We see the Boyabreen Glacier, an outlet from the expansive Jostedalsbreen Glacier and then visit the excellent Norwegian Glacier Museum at Fjaerland, with its first class B,D
- Day 9 – Bergen (included). Bergen sightseeing (optional). A full day excursion to Norway’s second largest city and principal seaport, Bergen. Join our optional sightseeing tour which will introduce you to the city. In the heart of the medieval quarter of the city you will walk through the narrow streets where the merchants of the Hanseatic League used to live and learn about their lives and discover the history of this 900 year old city. The tour also includes visits to both the Bryggen’s Museum and the Hanseatic Museum. B,D
- Day 10 – To Stavanger for a two night stay. B
- Day 11 – Stavanger (included). Stavanger sightseeing (optional). Explore the 900 year old city of Stavanger, the European capital of Culture for 2008 (along with Liverpool), with Norway’s oldest cathedral and pretty harbour area. Our optional sightseeing tour shows us the royal manor at Ledaal, the monument of the Three Swords, the symbol of the unification of Norway into one kingdom, the fantastic view from Ullandhaugtarnet tower over the city and finishes with a walk through the Old Town. - Day 12 – Ferry from Kristiansand to Hanstholm then to Århus for overnight. B
- Day 13 – To Holland for an overnight stay. B
- Day 14 – To Calais, then return home. B
