Your Holiday Itinerary
16-Day Break
- Day 1 – Overnight in northern France
- Day 2 – South to the Lake Como area. B,D
- Day 3 – Florence (included). We visit the famed Renaissance city of Florence, where you’ll have free time to explore. B,D
- Day 4 – Rome (included). On our visit to the ‘eternal city’, join our optional guided sightseeing tour by coach and on foot to see the best sights. B,D
- Day 5 –Pompeii and Vesuvius (included). See the haunting ruins at Pompeii, which was buried in the eruption of 79AD, then drive up to Mount Vesuvius, which commands spectacular views. Why not walk the final kilometre to the summit to view the crater? B,D
- Day 6 – Capri (optional). Sail across the Bay of Naples to this lovely island where Gracie Fields once lived, and see the whitewashed houses, smart villas, colourful gardens and open air cafés. B,D
- Day 7 – To the foot of Italy to cross to Sicily and on to the resort town of Taormina Mare, on one of the most scenic coasts in Italy, for four nights. B,D
- Day 8 – Mount Etna and Taormina (included). Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe at 3350 metres. Our coach takes us to within 1900 metres and, if the weather is good, you can visit the summit by local bus (optional). Later, enjoy sightseeing time in Taormina. B,D
- Day 9 – Stromboli (included). A fantastic full-day excursion, starting with a boat trip from Milazzo to the island of Panarea. There will be free time for you to explore or perhaps go swimming at Zimmari beach. In the evening the boat leaves for the island of Stromboli to view the mighty volcano at night – the best time to see the mountain’s fiery explosions. We watch from offshore, before returning by sea to Milazzo, with a light dinner of pasta, wine and water included on board. B,D
- Day 10 – Syracuse (optional). Our guide will show us the delights of this lovely town, perhaps the most beautiful in Sicily. Syracuse was once the most powerful of all Mediterranean cities and home of the famous Archimedes. B,D
- Day 11 – To Fiuggi near Rome for an overnight stay. B,D
- Day 12 – Pisa (included). See the famous Leaning Tower. An optional guided sightseeing tour of Pisa is available. Overnight in Montecatini Tuscany.B,D
- Day 13 – North to the Austrian Tirol for two nights. B,D
- Day 14 – Grossglockner Glacier and Krimml Falls (included). Travel along the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse to the top of Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner (Big Bell), where you can view Europe’s largest glacier from the viewing platform. A truly formidable sight. Then to Krimml Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Europe, before crossing the scenic Gerlos Pass to return to our hotel. B,D
- Day 15 – To Belgium for an overnight stay. B
- Day 16 – Homeward bound. B

There's so much to enjoy on this tour, it's hard to pick out individual highlights, but the three volcanoes and Florence were my favourites.
