Your Holiday Itinerary

- Day 3 – Neuschwanstein and Linderhof (included). We cross into Germany to the village of Hohenschwangau to Ludwig II’s famous Neuschwanstein Catle. Built in the 19th century, this fairytale castle is dramatically perched on a hilltop and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and royal castle at Hohenschwangau entrance to castle included). Please note at Neuschwanstein there is a degree of walking involved, as well as a considerable number of steps to climb (King Ludwig loved his privacy!) In the afternoon we drive along the Graswang valley to visit beautiful castle Linderhof, modelled on the Petit Trianon at Versailles and lavishly decorated with mirrors, painted ceilings and gilded cherubs in a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque styles. B,D
- Day 4 – Herrenchiemsee and Oberammergau (optional). Located on an island in the Chiemsee Lake, Herrenchiemsee is the largest and most expensive castle built by Ludwig II. We drive to the lakeside town of Prien for some sightseeing, then take a boat across to Herren Island, before our stroll through the woods to the castle. The castle’s splendid interior and hall of mirrors are truly inspiring. Then to the world famous Bavarian town of Oberammergau, renowned for its Passion Play which takes place every 10 years. B,D
- Day 5 – Innsbruck and Vipiteno (optional, included on Silver Service). We travel south to join the Brenner autobahn to cross the border to northern Italy via the majestic Europa Bridge. We visit the medieval border town of Vipiteno, where you can shop for bargains, including wine and leather goods. In the afternoon we visit the ‘capital of the Tirol’, Innsbuck, with its fine regal buildings including the famous Golden Roof and the Hofburg Palace. B,D
- Day 6 – Romantic Road (included). The Romantic Road is probably the most beautiful of all tourist routes in Germany, built on the old Roman trade road known as the Via Augusta. The road is steeped in history and picturesque sights, including castles, palaces, medieval town houses, fortifications, churches and monasteries. Our scenic drive takes us past the towns of Donauworth and Nordlingen, to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where we spend time seeing the sights. Continue to our hotel in the Rhine or Moselle valley. B
