Your Holiday Itinerary
7-Day Break
- Day 1 – We travel to Belgium for an overnight stay.
- Day 2 – We travel via Cologne (included) to the Rhine Valley for five nights. On the banks of the Rhine, Cologne is the capital of the Rhineland, featuring the famous Dom cathedral, with its two spires. B,D
- Day 3 – Countryside walk and gondola ride (optional) and Rüdesheim (included). We recommend a chairlift ride from Assmannshausen to the top of the surrounding hills, before a leisurely country walk to the Niederwald Monument, with excellent views over the Rhine. A tranquil ride by small gondola cable car over the vineyards brings us into the centre of Rüdesheim. Alternatively, you can spend a morning at leisure in Assmannshausen before an afternoon excursion to the riverside wine town of Rüdesheim (included), home of the quaint Drosselgasse, containing one of the world's largest collections of self-playing mechanical musical instruments. B,D
- Day 4 – Heidelberg with sightseeing (optional). This old university town is often referred to as the 'romantic town', due to its picturesque location on the Neckar river, and the distinctive red sandstone buildings of the old town. Our guided sightseeing tour features a visit to the magnificent castle interior and time to enjoy the splendid views overlooking the town. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the sights and the Hauptstrasse, reputed to be the longest shopping street in Germany. B,D
- Day 5 – Rhine Valley (optional, included on Silver Service) and River Rhine Cruise (optional). Marvel at the superb medieval castles and vineyards; the world-famous Loreley Rock; Boppard, with its splendid Rhine Promenade and St. Goar, home to the world's largest cuckoo clock shop. The perfect way to view the Rhine is from the water - the optional cruise lasts for approximately 75 minutes and takes us through the Rhine gorge, famous for its many ancient castles (Kaub, Cat and Mouse to name a few), picturesque villages and vine-clad slopes. B,D
- Day 6 – Cochem the Moselle Valley and winetasting (optional). We begin at Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet, then along the gentle Moselle Valley, to charming Cochem. Then we enjoy some winetasting (optional) at the House of Anton Hammes in Alken. The Hammes family have been vintners for over 300 years - there's a tour through the old cellars, full of fine vintages, with the chance to sample and purchase these (plus we get to keep our wine glass as a souvenir!). B,D
- Day 7 – We journey to Calais then return home. B
