4-Star Cologne and the Rhine Valley
4 days from £205
Combining one of Europe's finest riverside cities and picturesque valleys
Itinerary
4-Day Break
- Day 1 – To Cologne for a three-night stay.
- Day 2 – Cologne (included). Spend the day in the grand city of Cologne on the banks of the River Rhine. View the majestic Dom (Cathedral) which dates back to the 13th century, or stroll along the Rhineside promenade, where there is also a famous chocolate factory. Germany’s fourth largest city boasts a shopping area to match around the Hohe Strasse area, and why not explore the lovely old restaurants in the city. The local specialities include the characteristic beer known as ‘koelsch’ and traditional hearty food available in the ‘brewpubs’. Don’t forget also that special bottle of the famous ‘eau de cologne’. Our hotel is approximately a 25-minute walk from the Cathedral, which means you are in a handy location for everything. B
- Day 3 – Rhine and Moselle Valleys (included). We leave after breakfast and travel south to the picturesque areas of the Rhine and Moselle valleys. We halt in the ‘pearl of the Rhine’ Boppard, where you can enjoy an optional Rhine cruise with lunch on board one of the fine ships of the Loreley-Line. The cruise lasts for approximately 2½ hours and sails south to the famous Loreley Rock. Enjoy the Rhineland scenery of vineyards and ancient castles clinging to the hillsides before visiting the gentler scenery of the Moselle valley, where you can enjoy an optional winetasting at the famous house of Anton Hammes. B
- Day 4 – To Calais, then return home.B
