9-Day Break

  • Day 1 – Local departure then onwards to Belgium for an overnight stay.
  • Day 2 – Continue south to Niederau, Austria for a 6-night stay. B,D
  • Day 3 – Ziller Valley Railway and Mayrhofen (included). Sit back and relax as an old steam locomotive takes us on an historic journey through the panoramic Ziller Valley, from Fügen to the resort town of Mayrhofen. The Zillertal is one of Austria’s most famous narrow railways and has been in operation since 1902. B,D
  • Day 4 – Gisela Train and Kitzbühel (included). Visiting the lakeside resort of Zell-am-See, we then board the Gisela Train* and take a nostalgic rail journey through the mountains to Kitzbühel. The centrepiece of the original train is the Royal Imperial Carriage, built in 1910. You can also visit the Pullman car, where the original post box with its own special stamp is kept. B,D
  • Day 5 – Innsbruck (optional). Innsbruck came to prominence under the rule of the Habsburgs in the 15th century, when the Emperor Maximilian based his imperial court here. Many fine regal buildings adorn the city, including the famous Golden Roof and the Hofburg Palace. We also see the Berg Isel Olympic ski jump, from where there are wonderful views overlooking the city and the surrounding Karwendel Mountains. Whilst in Innsbruck, you may wish to take the tram (no.6) from Bergisel, near the Basilica, to the pretty mountain village of Igls. En-route you will pass Schloss Ambrass, which is also  worth visiting. B,D
  • Day 6 – St. Wolfgang and the Schafberg Railway (optional). Austria’s lake district is breathtaking. We visit St. Gilgen, where you can stroll along the lakeside or explore the shops. We then cruise to St. Wolfgang, where we board the cog railway and ascend the Schafberg Mountain for some spectacular photographic opportunities. B,D
  • Day 7 – Lake Achensee (optional, included on Silver Service). Enjoy a scenic drive along the Alpenstrasse to Lake Achensee, the largest lake in the Austrian Tyrol.
