Your Holiday Itinerary
9-Day Break
- Day 1 – We break up our journey with an overnight stay in Belgium.
- Day 2 – We arrive in Giswil and stay for three nights. B,D
- Day 3 – Lucerne (included) Pilatusbahn and cable car (optional). With its beautiful lakeside setting and significant historic sights, Lucerne is truly charming. Take a walk along the old town wall, across the delightful 14th century Chapel Bridge - originally part of the town's fortifications - and admire the roof paintings depicting historical scenes. The Pilatusbahn is the world's steepest cog railway and has been in operation since 1889. It climbs Mount Pilatus at a 48% gradient, rising 6791 feet above sea level. The original passenger steam cars had an average speed of 2-3mph; today, the electric cars run at 6mph and reach the top in just 30 minutes. Take in the views and then return by cable car. B,D
- Day 4 – Interlaken and Grindelwald (included). A scenic drive over the Brunig Pass takes us to the ancient village of Brienz, on the banks of Lake Brienz. Several of the town's houses and hotels were built in the 1600's, while the local church dates back to the 12th century. We continue to Interlaken, impressively situated between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. You'll have time to explore before we visit the glacier village of Grindelwald. Have your camera ready to capture the magnificent view of the famous Eiger Mountain. B,D
- Day 5 – Swiss Glacier Express (optional). We leave Giswil and en route to St. Anton for a three-night stay we have the chance to ride on the Glacier Express from Andermatt to Chur. Riding the 'slowest express train in the world', we climb through unforgettable scenery to the summit of the Oberalp Massif. Panoramic windows allow for breathtaking views as we pass through quaint mountain towns and see the mighty Rhine River as a mountain stream. In order to guarantee your seat reservation this trip must be purchased at the time of booking - £31 per person. B,D
- Day 6 – Innsbruck and Vipiteno (optional, included on Silver Service). Innsbruck is the only major city in the Alps. This city offers a unique combination of culture and history set against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains. See the famous Golden Roof, the Hofburg Palace and Maria Theresien street. Afterwards, we cross the Brenner Pass into Italy to spend some time in the shopping haven of Vipiteno. B,D
- Day 7 – Lech (included). Enjoy a half-day excursion to one of Austria's premier winter ski resorts, the picturesque alpine village of Lech. B,D
- Day 8 – We travel to our hotel in Belgium for an overnight stay. B
- Day 9 – We arrive in Calais for our return journey home. B
