"My second tour with Leger was the Spanish Coast and Barcelona by Luxuria. Having been with Leger before, Barcelona was one region that I hadn’t visited. But I was more than delighted that we offered door to door service and I would be able to just relax and enjoy my holiday knowing I would be in safe hands with the tour crew, Stuart and John.

Door to Door Service, an overnight stay in Paris before travelling to Calella, a beautiful seaside resort on the Costa del Maresme - I was not disappointed! Glorious weather, endless blue skies, spectacular sea views and having a drink in one of the beach bars with a few of my travelling companions soaking up the atmosphere. My holiday had begun.
The hotel where I stayed was great. No complaints at all. Staff were polite and helpful and the room was bright and air conditioned with a private bathroom. After getting a good night sleep, in a nice comfortable bed, continental breakfast was served in the restaurant and once again, joining my travelling companions, we made our way to our tour bus where Stuart and John put us at ease before heading off on the Costa Brava Coastal Tour.
The Costa Brava has some of the most picturesque coastal towns and villages from the middle ages. You need a comfortable pair of shoes if you want to walk along the narrow cobbled streets in Tossa de Mar. Medieval walls, a 14th century church, there are lots of interesting things to see and if you need a rest, there are plenty of bars where you can relax and taste the local beers. The scenery is so spectacular that you can understand why famous artists were inspired by its natural beauty.
After having refreshments, we continued on to Lloret de Mar which is the liveliest resort on the Costa Brava and finally stopped at the historic town Blanes which was once famous for its lace making. Blanes is a favourite seaside resort for locals and is known as the Gateway to the Costa Brava. There are a lot of things to do at Blanes and you can admire the spectacular views and see the pretty botanical landscapes.
Returning to the hotel, it was good to have a leisurely shower before relaxing with a drink or two over dinner with friends that I had made whilst travelling with Leger Holidays. We had lots of interesting things to talk about and had a few laughs telling each other about events and experiences that had happened over the years whilst touring abroad. Later that evening, exhilarated and exhausted, I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and was looking forward to visiting Barcelona the next day.
It was another sunny day with temperatures reaching 20°. Clear blue skies, a full-day excursion planned and Stuart and John, in jovial spirits, checking that we were all present and correct before taking the coast road to Barcelona.
This beautiful city in Spain is not only known for its Football Club but for its architecture, which is colourful and breathtakingly beautiful. The bustling Las Ramblas in Barcelona cuts through the heart of the city and you can enjoy the delightful atmosphere watching people going about their business. If you take the guided sightseeing tour, you can see many of the city’s sights and like all major cities, the southernmost end of the Ramblas becomes a red light district frequented by ladies of the night.
It was an interesting but tiring day and was such a nice feeling getting back to the hotel where I could take my shoes off, have a shower and a little nap before meeting up with Colin, a friend that I had made on the journey. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves exploring the surrounding area looking at the shops and cafes ending up having a drink in one of the local bars.
An optional excursion to the 9th Century Benedictine monastery in Montserrat was arranged by Leger the following day but with so much still to see in Calella, it was a good opportunity to soak up the sunshine, appreciate the spectacular coastal views and take lots of photographs.
The following morning, it was time for Stuart and John to make sure that we were all safely on the coach with our belongings before heading north on the long journey to Paris for an overnight stay before returning home.
May I take this opportunity to thank everyone at Leger, especially Stuart and John, for their support and kindness. It was a wonderful holiday and seeing the architecture in Barcelona and the spectacular views on the Costa Brava Coastal Tour, it was well worth the visit.
