We begin our cruise upstream to the quintessential Rhine town of Andernach. See the round tower (Runder Turm), one of the symbols of the city, or enjoy a walk around the town's historic centre.

We continue our cruise, passing the 2000-year old town of Koblenz, at the point where the Rhine meets the Moselle. We continue to Boppard, where you can enjoy a stroll around the compact town or along the pretty Rhine Promenade. This afternoon, we offer an excursion by coach to the old town of Cochem, one of the most beautiful wine-growing locations in Germany, where the impressive Reichsburg Castle stands high above the river. We moor overnight in Boppard.

A day of wonderful scenery today as we cruise along the most dramatic stretch of the mighty Rhine. Our cruise takes us through the Rhine Gorge, passing hill-top castles, picturesque towns and vine-clad slopes. We also pass the legendary Loreley Rock near the picturesque town of St. Goarshausen before reaching Rüdesheim. Explore this bustling town known for its wine-making, especially Riesling wines. At the heart of the old town, Rüdesheim boasts the Drosselgasse, a charming street bursting with shops, wine bars and garden taverns.

We cruise downstream towards Koblenz, where we arrive around lunchtime. At around 5.00pm we sail in convoy, as part of the flotilla towards Bonn and witness the amazing fireworks display. The ever-changing kaleidoscope of colour erupts over the river, illuminating the countryside, before we continue to Cologne arriving in the early hours.

Accommodation

You will spend five nights aboard the 3-star MV Esmeralda. Cabin accommodation is on two decks: main and promenade. There is a lounge with bar, restaurant and sun deck. All cabins have twin beds, en suite facilities with shower, picture window and a safe. The MV Esmeralda has a lift between the main deck and the promenade deck, and a stair lift between the promenade deck and the sun deck.
