Getting on a tour coach we found that we have the seats and position in the coach we requested so we are off on our long journey to frontiers new.

Early the next morning and we are off again to travel cross country to our second overnight hotel, the Parma and Congressi. Off early again the following morning and we eventually arrived at our main holiday hotel, the Hotel Mary, which is built on the side of a high cliff at Vico Equense, just outside Sorrento.

It was a lovely room with our door opening straight onto a large sun lounge area, complete with lots of sun loungers, a swimming pool and magnificent views- it was going to be a great stay!

Day four and today we are off to Sorrento and it was a glorious day with bright hot sunshine. Sorrento proved to be a very attractive place to visit. To get to our dropping off location we had to use small local buses, as our Leger coach was far too big to negotiate Sorrento’s small, narrow streets. It wasn’t just our coach that was too big, all transport was by these small buses.

Day five and we are off to Pompeii and Vesuvius. Having since school days read about both places it was going to be great to actually visit them. First came Vesuvius, brooding massively above us. the ride up the volcano was exciting. Arriving at the base reception, we paid our fees and set off to climb up to the craters edge at the top. The climb was rather long but the views down deep into the crater made all the effort worthwhile.

Coming down from the craters rim was a lot easier and we then set off on our second visit of the day- we were off to Pompeii.
Day six and today we were off to the Isle of Capri. Once again we had to use the small local buses to get us to the boat we would be going over to Capri in. Capri was beautiful and it was a wonderful experience touring around.
When we got back to our hotel, we found notices on our beds inviting everyone to watch a firework display that evening. The display was to celebrate Saint Antonio- Saint Protector of Seiano Harbour, which Hotel Mary overlooked from on high. What a display-it was truly magnificent!

Day seven and it was the Amalfi coast- the excursion that both Jean and I were looking forward to most. The drive around and up didn’t disappoint and we both felt that it was the highlight of the holiday.

Day eight and although it was supposed to be a day at leisure, arrangements had been made to take us to visit Herculaneum, which is similar to Pompeii in fame. We found that we really enjoyed our time spent at Herculaneum, it was smaller than Pompeii and you could easily wander amongst the ruins at your own speed.

Day nine and it’s our day to visit Rome. We were dropped just outside The Vatican and it was great seeing all the places that we had seen so many times on TV.

We had a wonderful holiday. Our drivers Roddy and Phil were excellent, undertaking all tasks and wishes with humour and patience.

The weather whilst we were at Sorrento, Capri and Rome had been perfect, and was both deliciously hot and sunny. Our stay at the Hotel Mary was great and we would return there without any doubt.

Thank you for another wonderful holiday, we enjoyed ourselves so much!
