Splendours of Paris

What our previous travellers have to say about this tour

"I would definitely recommend this short break."

"We travelled to Paris at Easter weekend this year and had a fantastic time. I was apprehensive as I'd only just had a knee replacement but I need not have been because our drivers Mike and Keiran were brilliant. They were professional and went that extra mile for you. They also kept us entertained with their great sense of humour. Mike's knowledge of France was outstanding. Our hotel was comfortable, clean and the staff were very friendly.

On the Saturday morning you could either be dropped off to spend the day in Paris on your own or you could take an optional coach tour of Paris. We chose the coach tour with a tour guide, which was a great way to see the sights. After that we went on a cruise on the River Seine to get a different view of Paris. In the evening there was an optional 'Paris by night' tour to a restaurant in the Italian quarter which was the highlight of the trip. It gave us a chance to sample some of the French ambience. We had a three course meal, the wine was included and the entertainment was hysterical. To end an amazing day the drivers took us to see some of the sights of Paris by night and then on to see the Eifel tower illuminations. I would definitely recommend this short break.

"I chose the Paris / Versailles trip because I had never been to either place and wanted to experience the notorious magic for myself.

On the first day we were taken on the optional sightseeing tour by our wonderful coach drivers to see all the main landmarks and beautiful buildings. The Eiffel Tower was even more powerful in real life and we saw the incredible views of it down from the Trocadero. A local guide shared her knowledge and history with us which was fascinating. From Notre Dame to the Arc de Triomphe, we covered them all! Then we headed out on foot, stopping for paella at the riverside market. We paid a visit to the Rodin Museum and saw 'The Thinker'.

In the evening we went to the optional Latin Quarter excursion for a lovely meal. We got to know some of our fellow travellers better whilst being serenaded by a cheeky duo with a guitar and accordion. Paris by night was even more magical and we arrived at the Eiffel Tower at 9pm to see the beautiful light display. The photo opportunities were endless!

The next day we began in Montmatre at the Sacre Coeur, taking the venicular right to the top. The views over the city were spectacular as well as the beautiful ceiling and stained glass inside the Cathedral. Everything was bathed in sunlight.
Then we were whisked off to Versailles for the afternoon to explore the vast grounds. Baroque music played from the groves and fountains. It was so uplifting and atmospheric- people were even dancing! The views down the great perspective were incredible and all of the landscaping and statues made you feel like you were part of the Sun King's Court.

That evening we stayed in Rueil Malmaision where our hotel was and wandered around the town. It was incredibly pretty with a church in the town square and many shops. We could hear the choir practising.
The trip ended too soon! This was my first trip with Leger Holiday and I would highly recommend them with their professional drivers and comfortable coaches!

"A few years ago we travelled to Holland with Leger, where we enjoyed Easter sailing the Ijsselmeer on the Rhine Princess. A lovely break, and we highly recommend it to others, as was out next trip with Leger where we saw in the New Year sailing the Rhine on the Prinses Juliana. This was one of the best New Year’s Eves we have ever had. Consequently, when looking for something to do for our 44th Wedding anniversary, we saw Leger had a tour to Paris, coinciding with our dates, so we were confident we would be well looked after.

Leger Silver Service is second to none, our drivers, Tony and John, were first class and a credit, to not just Leger, but the holiday industry in general. They took great pride in their work, and kept their luxury coach immaculately clean at all times. Nothing was too much trouble for them – two ‘great fellas’.
The Holiday Inn, Bougival, was very comfortable with pleasant, helpful staff and a good selection at the breakfast buffet, nothing more to ask for!

We arrived at the hotel in torrential rain so we were glad of the comfort of our ‘own coach’ for the Paris sightseeing the next day. This was exceedingly good value for money. A morning with a highly knowledgeable local guide who was a mine of quirky little snippets of information to add local ‘colour’ and was always happy to answer questions. In the afternoon we had a nice relaxing cruise on the Seine (we love boat trips and cruises). The other organised excursion was Paris by Night. This again was exceedingly good value for money, a very substantial 3 course meal (beef Bourgignon – my favourite) with copious amounts of wine and a musician playing throughout. Then followed a tour of Paris and a trip to the top of the Montparnasse Tower – 56 floors in about 36 seconds – where we had an impressive 360 degree view of Paris from the Observation Floor.

We have been to Paris a few times over the years and visited Versailles so we opted to do our ‘own thing’ for a couple of days and looked around locally. We found St Germain en Laye just a few stops along the river from the hotel. This is a lovely little town where we were able to enjoy a little bit of the ‘real France’. We celebrated our anniversary here at a typical french Brassiere with pavement tables. Magical!

Our view: If you are looking for something a little bit special, you can’t go wrong with Leger.

"I snuggled into bed wondering how on earth we had done and seen so much in just two days."

"As my last single traveller holiday was in 2008, I left home a little apprehensive but after an easy journey from Yorkshire down to Calais I was soon settled in my comfy tour coach. A good start to my first Leger holiday. The long drive to Paris passed quite quickly and by the time we reached the hotel the crew had formed us into a friendly group.

On our morning tour an excellent local guide gave us fact and tales as we visited the main sights of the city. It was wonderful to see the avenues and stunning architecture, much of it familiar from films and books, the amazing Eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre to name but a few, plus the fabulous shops and the Parisian street life. A free hour gave me the opportunity to test my self-reliance- I wandered happily on the riverside, through the crowds at the base of the tower and ate in a pretty garden area before meeting up with the group for a cruise on the Seine. In the evening we did ‘Paris by Night’, followed by eating well and laughing immoderately, a super day.

Next morning we headed for the gorgeous Sacre Coeur with its great city views, passing the Moulin Rouge on our way, then Montmarte and the artist’s quarter, a real treat. In the afternoon came my personal favourite, the sun shone and I spent a happy couple of hours in the huge, peaceful, beautiful gardens of Versailles, interspersed with cheery waves and “hellos” from coach companions-wonderful. Still more to come, we spent dusk till dark 1000 feet in the air, on Montparnasse tower watching Paris light up, a rare sight, followed by an evening and dinner in the Latin Quarter after which I snuggled into bed wondering how on earth we had done and seen so much in just two days.

A sad farewell to new friends and an outstanding crew, all a big part of this hugely enjoyable break, sent me off on a trouble free journey home where I was soon writing a holiday journal which ended up with lots of pages!

Altogether an excellent short break, roll on the next!
