At Easter I'll be going on the Prague, Vienna and Budapest tour and at the end of May I'm doing the Grand Russian Spectacular. What do I need int eh way of currencies for tips, drinks, souvenirss, lunches, etc. I don't want to end up with lots of cash left over in currencies I'll not use again, nor do I want to be counting pennies or going without.

Any advice welcome.

Hi Jacqi,

I've had a chat with our product department and they've suggested the following figures:

Prague, Vienna & Budapest - Euro: £500

Grand Russian Spectacular - Euro: £400 - U.S Dollar: £50 - Danish Krone: £60

The figures are the amount in sterling of each curency you would need. These figures are just a guide as we understand each persons needs are different.

Hope this helps

That can't possibly be right! £500 for lunches and tips for an eight day holiday? (Prague etc). Especially as the suggestion for the Russian trip of 16 days is not much more.

Could you check again please? I will be using a credit card for drinks etc in hotels and food on the ferry, it's just spending money I'm asking about. In light of Globetrotter Sarah's posting, could you also check which currencies we need. I don't mind having a few too many Euros, what I don't want is too mumuchr too little of currencies I wont use again.

Hi JacqiB

This is a real tricky one to answer as everybody's requirements regarding expenditure are different. So it would be an impossibility for me to be more specific as it is a very personal choice for each individual..

Hope you have a great holiday please do come back to me if you have any further questions..

Thanks

So do we need to get all four currencies or just euros?

Can we use Euros in each country or is the advice given by your company to Globetrotter Sarah correct - that we need four different currencies?

Can we at least get this one sorted out?  I appreciate that 'individual needs' will affect how much spending money needed so I'll work that one out for myself.  So, if we could just have answers to the following questions:

WHICH currencies are needed for the Prague, Vienna and Budapest trip?

WHICH currencies are needed for the Grand Russian Spectacular trip?

For each of these, are there any entry fees that are not included in the cost of the trip (or not included in the cost of excursions) for which I will need to pay in cash? If so, how much and which currency.

I'm off to Prague in two weeks time and would like to get this sorted out.

Thanks in advance

Jacqi

Hi JacqiB & Globetrotter Sarah

Euros can be used in each country however we recommend that in Russia you use dollars and exchange these to the official currency this being the rouble. The coins are kopecks. There are 100 kopecks in one rouble.

There are exchange offices in most hotels who offere very favorable rates of exchange. You have to show your passport to exchange money. You can not use foreign currency in shops or restaurants.

Credit cards can be used in quite a few places but this is usually more well known / expensive places.

So in summary :-

WHICH currencies are needed for the Prague, Vienna and Budapest trip?
Euros

WHICH currencies are needed for the Grand Russian Spectacular trip?
Euros, Dollars, Danish Krone

As far as any additional entry fees excursions are concerned I will get somebody in our product department to reply.

Once again have a great time and don't hesitate to contact me if you need any more info and remember to share your holiday with others here on the forum when you return.

Thanks

Michael

Hi Jaqi

I have just got a reply from our product team

"The passengers Itineraries with all the excursion prices will be sent out this week once we have finalised them.

As far as entrances are concerned we don't take our travellers to anywhere where they will have to pay extra entrance costs (not in the excursion cost), the sightseeing tours wont have time to actually go inside the places seen."

Hope this helps and as always any questions drop me a line.

Thanks

Michael

Thanks for that.

Strange, then, that the itinerary on this website for day six (Schonbrunn Palace Gardens) says:
inside the Palace you'll learn all sorts of interesting facts about the Imperial family (entrance to the Palace not included), while you can continue to enjoy ... a relaxing stroll around the gardens

Jacqi, very confused
