Fiesta de San Valero

Zaragoza pays homage to its patron saint, San Valero, with theatre and children's events, rock concerts and street dancing in the Plaza de los Sitios and the city centre.
Los Cristianos Carnival

Los Cristianos stages one of Tenerife's smaller carnival celebrations, but that's not to say you should overlook it. Of all Spain's carnivals, those of the Canary Islands carry the most kudos. The main carnival on the island can be found in the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is well known on the international carnival circuit for its Latin sounds, eye-catching floats and nearly-naked performers. What's more, in 1987 it made the Guinness Book of Records for its tremendous turnout.
Festival of the May Crosses

Granada, a hotbed of Andalusian culture and former capital of the medieval Moorish Empire, celebrates the Festival of the May Crosses by decorating its plazas, balconies, pavements and railings with eye-catching floral displays. The decorated "crosses" become focal points of dancing, singing and general merrymaking.
Taming of the Beasts Festival
When: Jul 2008 (annual)
Where: San Lorenzo de Sabucedo - A Estrada
Cost: Free
In a practice dating back to the Bronze Age, each summer in the province of Galicia in north-west Spain, man and beast grapple it out in the famous "Taming of the Beasts" festival, known locally as the Rapa das Bestas.
Atlantic Rally for Cruisers

Where: Las Palmas

Launched in 1986, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) has become a regular event on the international sailing calendar. This annual transantlantic rally starts each November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and crosses to Rodney Bay on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.
