Snow Festival

When: 26 Jan 2008 (annual)

Where: Seefeld

Opening Hours: 8am

The white substance rules the day as the winter haven of Seefeld hosts its annual Snow Festival, featuring colossal ice sculptures, open-air discos and a large firework display. From the Wednesday before the climax of this festival you can watch the local artists as they create their sculptures. On the Saturday all the sculptures are finished and the town celebrates with a big party.

Schönbrunn Easter Fair

When: Apr 2008 (annual)

Where: Schönbrunn Palace

The beautiful Baroque palace and gardens of Schönbrunn Palace welcome this colourful Easter fair, selling a plethora of eggs in all shapes and sizes. The stalls are laden with mini-masterpieces made from chocolate, marzipan, fondant and praline, a colourful eggstravaganza tempting visitors to indulge. Countless other novel Easter specialities include tin toys, religious carvings and wreaths.

Dolomite Cycling Challenge

When: Jun 2008 (annual)

Where: Lienz

The Austrian town of Lienz demonstrates the meaning of pedal power at the Dolomite Cycling Challenge, as 2000 super-fit cyclists turn out to take on a gruelling mountain route. The Dolomitenrundfahrt comprises two courses: the standard 112-kilometre course and the 187-kilometre marathon, featuring an altitude difference of 3000 metres. Crowds come from all over Europe to cheer the cyclists on, while a programme of side events including open-air concerts, mountain sprints and parties accompanies the race.

Music Film Festival

When: Jun - Sep 2008 (annual)

Where: Vienna

Opening Hours: Various; shows start at twilight

Vienna's biggest open-air film festival takes place in the very heart of the city. Cinematic evenings of opera, dance and concerts, presenting world music, ballet, opera and jazz performances, are projected on a giant screen in front of the City Hall.
